I rarely write reviews, but I do it here so that I can find the hotel again if necessary and recommend it to others. As my previous commenters have said: exceeded all expectations. I stayed there for 1 night and received an upgrade on site. Check-out was set to 1:00 p.m. free of charge. Great room! And the staff at reception were extremely nice and accommodating. Thank you very much German

Great, stylish hotel in a good location. A 7-minute walk through a quiet, well-lit settlement takes you to the tram network with a perfect connection to the city center. The hotel staff is friendly, helpful and accommodating. The rooms are not very large but very clean and equipped with everything a tired holidaymaker could desire. Very comfortable beds.Super good breakfast (the hummus is divine) with lots of fresh ingredients that leaves nothing to be desired.

As a couple, we stayed at “the Deutz” for one night after a sauna stay and were very excited.Receive a free upgrade on site. Super soft beds, great down duvet & enough pillows. Check out was extended to 1:00 p.m. free of charge, very convenient. There was also free fresh fruit, water and a candy bar at the reception.Completely satisfied and great value for money!

On location, I did not feel any safety issue. Within a five minute walk is the discount retailer Lidl, where you can buy cheap bottled water and food. About another eight from this is the main entrance to the exhibition centre, the North Entrance. Well placed crosswalks mean there is little concern about travelling on foot. Not many nearby restaurants (5 mins walk), though in a pinch near the Lidl there is a doner kebab shop. It's around 45 euros taxi from CGN airport to this location one way, so if you're only really here for the conference centre, it's worth considering the price difference compared to, say, the Adagio aparthotel, which is far more well placed in the conventional sense, with nearby restaurants, while still near an entrance (the south entrance). On the staff, as I came for Gamescom, the staff offered to keep my luggage when I first arrived when I enquired online, which was an appreciated gesture. I was surprised that they didn't care about me having a reservation later, suggesting they'd offer this service even for non-guests. While the location means it's likely out of the way for many people who'd use this (presumably people coming for the Koelnmesse centre for exhibitions), it's still nice. I was particularly concerned about staff being uncourteous and not speaking English, but this definitely wasn't my experience. Both receptionists I met spoke fluent english and were very friendly, coming out to open the doors when they noticed I was carrying a lot of groceries. Message saying you needed to leave a debit/credit card with the reception is wrong. This isn't the case, they merely charge the card. Amazing small details such as a complimentary mini-game and a message wishing me a good time at Gamescom (a detail they likely took from my chat asking about luggage storage) and a complimentary bottle of water. 500ml a great gesture. The room's condition was generally great, though some areas were lacking. You could point to the paint peeling around the area of one light on the ceiling of my room. There was a lack of dust and on first look you wouldn't find much to complain about. Even a lot of the decorations (such as the books on top of the bed) were dust-free, which surprised me as these are often a failing for other hotels. The toilet was a generous size, with glass cups provided and great conditioner, body wash, hand wash etc. You could only bring toothpaste and toothbrush with no issues. My only major issue was the mini-fridge, which seemed non-functional and dirty. Yellow stains were in the far back and it didn't seem to be turned on, as I could not feel any cold air. While it would have been great for it to be better maintained, given that drinks and snacks aren't there by default, I'm not too angry at that. The large TV, plugs by the bed and on the office desk and powerful temperature control make it a very pleasant experience.I am glad that the hotel did not advertise its business centre, given it's literally just a small room with one mac and a printer. The wifi is excellent, with even the free option being sufficient for video calls. The fact that the staff encouraged me to test out the speed first before upgrading when I expressed concern, needing to do a job interview the next day, was a pleasant surprise when many other hotels would have leapt on the chance to upsell. This simply doesn't match the allegations of theft and bullying I have seen in other reviews, so whether Mariott has engaged in staff training/screening or if those were exaggerated, at least in my experience I can express strong confidence with the staff.

Very modern hotel with very friendly and young staff. The rooms are well equipped and everything is clean. The breakfast is not too expensive and the selection is very good. Plus everything is very fresh. Check in and out went smoothly. The location is great, whether for the trade fair or an event in the Lanxess Arena. You can achieve both very quickly.Clear recommendation for short stays.
