It's a castle! A great place for an overnight stop. We enjoyed most aspects of our stay. The room was great. The food was delicious.The only odd thing was that when arriving for what we hoped would be pre dinner drinks at 17:45, we were told that they were not open until 18:00. The restaurant is in the same room as the reception. We were left standing with a drinks menu while the staff laid all of the tables. This might sound unusual but we were the only customers for the entire evening! (I believe most rooms were booked by a wedding party).

I have stayed at the beautiful Hotel Schloss Spangenberg several times in the last two years, mostly for one to three nights, most recently in September and every time it is an extremely nice experience.The hotel, or rather the castle, is of course a beautiful place, and it is simply a very special feeling to sleep in a century-old building! Considering it is such an old building, the rooms are very cozy and stylish: very comfortable beds, incredible views and particularly modern and beautiful bathrooms.My experiences with the food on site have always been very positive. The breakfast is plentiful and diverse, there is something for every taste. A special highlight is the honey in the honeycombs! The best part of all is the food in the restaurant. I have rarely eaten so well! The meat and fish are of the highest quality. On the one hand, I had very exciting dishes with, for me, completely new combinations, and on the other hand, more traditional dishes (last time I ate an exceptionally good schnitzel). What's also good to know: I never ordered it myself, but I was also able to try the vegan dishes and they were just as tasty and interesting as the non-vegan dishes, which is rarely the case.The staff was always particularly friendly. I can recommend the hotel and the restaurant without any reservations!

We booked 9 or at the end ten rooms last week at the hotel,We love the place, the surrounding, we love the castle and the style of the rooms. On this site, we really enjoyed our stay as a group.But we have to say, that the service itself and the restaurant was really, really disappointing. First of all, the food wasn´t good. It wasn´t well served, it wasn`t well cooked and nobody from the restaurant cared about it. We had three dishes and two of them were really not good at all, the third one was ok, by highly expansive. That was the opinion of the whole group, from 12 to 74 years old, from Germany, Spain, USA and Israel. Nobody helped us with the luggage (three floors), they couldn´t manage the arrival and sorting of 18 guests, a lot of things didn´t worked out. But the best thing is: confronted with our critics (per mail, after a week), the managing director asked us to not come again and refused to have done any mistake. Well, that was new one. Greets to Mr. Gattschau. The hotel and the castle deserves a better manager.

A great and beautiful castle with beautiful rooms. We got married there and had an unforgettable day. The food was delicious and varied, the service was very professional and courteous - simply perfect. The location is very suitable for this.I can only recommend it!

You can't get into the castle. You can only walk one lap around the castle.The view of Spangenberg is nice, but nothing more

We became aware of Spangenberg Castle through internet research. The pictures and reviews were promising, but we didn't want to compromise on our silver wedding anniversary. So before we decided on the location (which is 220km from where we live!), the whole family checked into the hotel “incognito” for 2 nights at the end of September 23 and we also tested the restaurant on both evenings. We were so excited that we booked the date for our silver wedding anniversary on June 8, 24. The castle is simply ideal for large family celebrations. From the wine selection, to the food, the very nice and helpful staff, the rooms and the wealth of experience of Silvana and Arno Gattschau, combined with an enviable composure: there is simply nothing to complain about. We will come back!

A great castle and the overnight stay is simply fantastic. Maybe we were unlucky with the room, but unfortunately it wasn't as great as some other pictures of rooms. Here and there something should be renovated or improved soon but all in all the rooms and the hotel are worth the price. The staff is friendly and helpful, we didn't use the restaurant so I can't comment on that.

Spangenberg Castle is definitely worth a visit and one (or more) overnight stays and a meal in the castle restaurant!We had a hotel experience of the very best - especially thanks to the professional, very courteous and highly personal staff, outstanding cuisine and a wonderful atmosphere, which was right down to the smallest detail.Our stay deserves all kinds of stars and special praise and many thanks to the owner, who gave us an unforgettable experience at the castle with so much hospitality and expertise. Claim and truth, existence and appearance do not fit together. The quinoa bowl was only cooked in water, without any spices/broth/stock or anything that would enhance the neutral taste. Very small vegetable garnish, but the taste was okay. Dish without any sauce, as is usually the case for a bowl. Overall, far too expensive and not worthy of the beautiful ambience!The breakfast, on the other hand, is without any complaints, very good!
