Review only refers to the historical part. Built around 1230, it was planned as an imperial castle by King Henry VII. Hence the unusual size of the complex. Further information about the history can be found in the photos on the corresponding information boards, so no further explanations will be given. The core castle, now known as the lower castle, is located in the middle of the complex, on a small mountain plateau. With keep, main building, shield wall, moat and curtain wall. Today's castle buildings were built around 1600 and include hall-like rooms with a stair tower, a gatehouse and various farm buildings, all surrounded by walls that had corner towers. When I visited, the keep was unfortunately locked, despite information to the contrary on the door. The castle chapel was also closed. Some other buildings too. Probably because of the need for renovation. Exemplary, the individual buildings have information boards. For me the facility was accessible, as it is used by a golf club and a hotel, you can inquire in advance. It's better to register for a guided tour. At [email protected], that's definitely better, maybe it's more open there. According to the notice, it costs €7:00. I used the golfers' parking lot to park.
