Great, family-run hotel in Waldkirch, just outside Freiburg. Bright, spacious rooms, cozy lounge with drinks at very fair prices.Incredibly hospitable team both at reception and at breakfast. The eggs are excellent.The rooms are bright and spacious, only the shower in room 321 is very sparse and dark.Ideal starting point for hikes in the Black Forest or a city trip to Freiburg. The train station (half-hourly connections to Freiburg until late in the evening) can be reached on foot in 5 minutes, and Waldkirch's city center, which is well worth seeing, is right next door.We felt completely comfortable here for the two nights and can fully recommend the Gasthof zum Storchen. We'd love to come back.

Actually very good, designers have let off steam here who have simply forgotten a lot of practical things. For example, towel racks, bathrobe hooks, etc.

The hotel is really nice. Great facilities, top location and the associated restaurant is also good. Now comes the big BUT and the reason for the bad rating. I was there with my husband and my three children (7, 5 and 1 year old) for two nights in June 2023 and unfortunately had to realize that the guests of the future are not welcome. Since the owners have three children themselves, I assumed that children would be welcome there. Unfortunately, we had unpleasant experiences. On Saturday morning at 8 a.m. the boss informed us that we should please be a little quieter as many of the guests were still sleeping. I wonder if at 8 p.m. in the evening the guests are also informed that children are sleeping in the hotel and we really weren't noisy. My children just shouted “good morning” to grandma in front of the hotel. During breakfast we were then very rudely informed by the staff that there was no playground here and that the hotel would not be liable in the event of accidents (I was in the fitness room with the kids and supervised them). There are also a lot of books for adults, but unfortunately none for children and in the restaurant there is nothing for the little ones to eat apart from fries. It's a shame that the little guests don't receive any attention in this hotel.

We stayed at this hotel as a group from the archery club.I was thrilled from the first moment.Nice rooms, very nice welcome and the highlight was the breakfast where we got freshly fried scrambled eggs with bacon.It is very centrally located to 3 archery courses that can be reached within 30 minutes.Great hotel.

We like to vacation in South Baden and this time we chose Waldkirch. When choosing accommodation, we immediately noticed the stork. We booked directly, not through an agency.The rooms are perfect, the breakfast is rich and varied. The service staff were all super nice and helpful. You can really relax here.

We came back :-) This should be shared in the best sense of satisfaction. With 9 people, dog and child, we went to the Storchen for a second time and were very satisfied. Great location for a day trip or a short hike in the area. I would like to give special mention to the restaurant. Great food, service and great and tasteful cuisine. Something very special even if you don't stay overnight.

We stayed at the Hotel zum Storchen again, of course for the historic market square festival on July 12th. until 7/14/24.It was another very nice short vacation for us and we didn't lack for anything in the hotel.From the nice staff at reception to the lovely ladies at the breakfast buffet, they were fantasticAfter conjuring up scrambled eggs, no expectation remained unfulfilled.A wonderful opportunity has been created in a new building directly oppositeto relax and unwind from coffee to cold drinks to small snacks.Unfortunately, it was a great pity that in the middle of this very nice major event, during which people wanted to switch off and have a cool drink in peace, a cooking class was held in exactly this room and entry was therefore denied. I think this date was really inappropriate.That's no reason to deduct a star, but I didn't want to leave it unmentioned, with the hope that in 3 years this beautiful space will hopefully be fully available for the next market square festival. – I believe that the Wittenberg fanfare band, billeted at the same time, with its beautiful uniforms and high-quality music, will have the same opinion.

We were there from July 12th. until July 14th, 2024 with the club.....Fanfarenzug Wittenberg e.V. as a guest in this hotel for the 10th Market Square Festival, invited by the Schwarzenberg Heralds.We were completely satisfied and had a very nice stay. The staff was always helpful and friendly even though we were there with 40 people.The beds were great, the bathroom was spacious and there was enough space in the closet. The only drawback is the lack of a refrigerator in the rooms in the main building, especially in the hot temperatures.We are looking forward to being able to come back in 3 years and one or two of the club will certainly use the hotel for a private visit to spend a holiday in this beautiful area.Thank you very much again for the great stay and the all-round service 💐👍🌟

We had a pleasant stay at the Hotel zum Storchen with a few drawbacks.The room was well equipped, the only thing missing was a small refrigerator.It was spacious, quiet and modern, we felt comfortable.The breakfast was very good, praise to the ladies who served us. The egg dishes were perfectly prepared and the selection was very good quality and varied!Unfortunately, there are also one or two negative things to report.The dirty towels that we wanted changed were placed on the floor, there were no new towels.Apparently the rooms aren't vacuumed properly either, because the plastic scraps on the floor from the first day were still there until we left.The garage costs €10 per day and caused us problems three times in three days. Once I had to put the system back in the maintenance room with the boss...Nevertheless, we really enjoyed our stay and the ladies at reception were very competent and nice.

In March 2024 I was allowed to spend a night in one of the new rooms in your house. The architecture (access to the rooms), the furnishings with beautiful wood (floors/windows/doors) are all successful, pleasantly different and sustainable. For guests who are sensitive to noise: the wonderful watercourse through Waldkirch cannot be heard through the balcony door. I found the sound calming when the balcony door was open, but everyone may perceive it differently. The breakfast was rich and delicious. A big plus: there is no “whiskering music” in the breakfast room that you usually encounter in hotels. The staff is very friendly. The fact that the rooms in this house are sour doesn't really need to be mentioned. Conclusion: If you are looking for very attractive and high-quality accommodation in Waldkirch at a fair rate, you are in good hands at the Storchen.
