It's a typical youth hostel. They have clean rooms, comfy bed beds, clean rest room and nice start. The food is ok. It's cheap and a good place to stay at when you want to go on vacation in Ilmenau.

As a travel group you will receive excellent care here, the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet is very lovingly prepared and the other meals are also completely appropriate for a youth hostel. There are great opportunities to do things with a school class or family within walking distance. We were there for the third time and will come back.

The Ilmenau youth hostel is a very nice and clean youth hostel, which is surrounded by shopping opportunities and with walkable proximity to the forest and hiking trails, not only beautiful rooms with their own shower and toilet, but also in and around the house a variety of play options, sitting areas, a " "Family and playroom" etc. offers.In the green outdoor area, in addition to the playground with table tennis tables, a basketball hoop, small soccer goals,... there is also a very nice barbecue hut, lots of seating and a sufficiently large area to let off steam or spend time together.The atmosphere is very pleasant, which is of course also due to the many friendly employees who are happy to take the time to chat, give tips for excursion destinations and are also very helpful with requests and problems.When you eat you can clearly tell that everything is cooked fresh and with love. For example, at dinner we were surprised with 8 different salads, there were different choices for warm dishes and daily variations. Since a Polish group was visiting, the food signs were even translated into Polish. During the opening hours of the dining room, drinks (water and juice) are always available for free.In the immediate vicinity (opposite) there is an Aldi, a kebab snack bar and an Edeka market (a few minutes walk).In addition to the many hiking trails, excursion destinations include the Ilmenau outdoor pool and a visit to the town or the toboggan run.An ideal destination for school and group trips, but also for families.

Absolutely nice and courteous staff. The gentleman at reception was super friendly and gave us a ball to play with before we checked in.The ladies in the kitchen are simply brilliant. Meha friendly and totally helpful. We felt comfortable with them.Children playing didn't bother the older guests at all and everyone was really nice. The rooms are perfectly adequate if you only come there to sleep.We'd love to come back.Thank you very much for the lovely time.
