A fair bit smaller than most of the castles in the area, but well restored while keeping to the original design. There is a restaurant on site that serves German cuisine and a hotel for those that wish to overnight. You can also book the castle for events such as weddings

A lovely restaurant in the castle. The walk up to the castle was fantastic. For those who want to avoid the sport it is possible to drive up by car.

We were able to celebrate our wedding at Sterrenberg Castle. In short, it was perfect. The location itself is amazing but the service was also great. Very friendly and courteous staff! We were supported by the organizer during the planning with advice and support and were therefore able to benefit from many years of experience. We can fully recommend the wedding location.

A pretty castle. The view of the castle from the opposite bank of the Rhine is wonderful. A quick stop for a photo or a few minutes break on one of the benches is definitely worth it.

Perhaps the oldest castle in the upper Middle Rhine Valley...🙃I can now say one thing with certainty, even if I were to visit another castle this year: the tour of Sterrenberg Castle was the culmination of a year in which I visited more castles than any other before. Because the leadership was uniquely good; It was authentic, inspiring, entertaining, humorous and, above all, from a historical perspective, it contained a real bastion of confirmed knowledge about Sterrenberg Castle, as well as interesting theses that seem obvious based on existing facts.Accordingly, the castle, derived from the place name Bornhofen, could have existed as early as 930, which would mean that it was built in the early Middle Ages and would therefore probably be one of the oldest, if not the oldest castle on the Rhine. In 1034, Sterrenberg Castle, built on a spur, was mentioned for the first time as an imperial castle. However, their existence was only confirmed in a document in 1190 by the fiefdom book of the Reich Ministry Werner von Bolanden. The castle remained in the possession of the Lords of Bolanden until the middle of the 13th century.Of course, the infamous Archbishop of Trier, elector and brother of Emperor Baldwin of Luxembourg, also laid claim to Sterrenberg Castle around 1310, which he was able to enforce after a siege in 1315.Four decades later, however, the castle lost more and more of its strategic importance due to the construction of Maus Castle and ended up as a ruin in the 16th century at the latest, where rapeseed and potatoes were grown.

Unfortunately it is a place where only weddings and events take place (there is a restaurant for this), so you can't see much of the castle other than the exterior and the surroundings.Of course, the views from there of the Rhine and the landscapes are unique due to its height and perspective.

The outdoor dining is excellent and offers a great view of the picturesque landscape of the Middle Rhine Valley. I ate one of the best curry sausages ever here and the cake was great too. The keep is definitely worth a climb and offers great information about the history of the castle!

The location is unique, unfortunately there are only events, I can't say anything about the rooms and I haven't visited any.
