A long-established bakery with delicious baked goods. You can sit outdoors and in a beautifully designed café. The lunch menu on offer is not necessarily top class, but it is edible. The cafe is definitely recommended.

It tastes best in the provinces! This Sunday I was traveling in the deepest province, specifically in Mansfeld-Südharz and, among other places, in Hettstedt.Unfortunately, Hettstedt isn't really the center of the world, especially not at the weekend. Here one seriously wonders not when the curbs will be raised, but whether they will be lowered at all.At coffee time I was in the beautiful city center and sadly there were only two cafes open. One of them was the Schulz bakery. Which was very hidden in the row of houses opposite the town hall. Even though the competitor "Schäfer Bäcker" was much more present just a stone's throw away, my decision was quite good. The coffee tasted delicious, but didn't stand out. But what really appealed to me was the selection of cakes and tarts. In addition to the classics such as Bienenstich, Donauwelle, Zupfkuchen and Streuselschnecke, there were at least six different versions of buttercream cakes and other specialties.I promptly tested a very tasty buttercream roll and was thrilled. The pastry chef's recipe is guaranteed to be older or well passed down. I knew the taste from my childhood and that was a few decades ago! ;O)In terms of taste, I was happy that I chose this cafe. Because I can get the baked goods next door at “Schäfers” in any pre-checkout zone at any EDEKA store. But what does everything around it say?I have positive and negative things to say here. Let's start with the good things. My waitress was very friendly and competent, in addition to the usual manners, she also wished me a good appetite and asked if it tasted good! She spontaneously explained to another customer after me the difference between a Danube wave and a Black Forest cake. Very funny situation! ;O)The store itself was clearly tiny!I sat in the only two-seater in the restaurant. Given the great location and the amazing view over the miners' monument directly to the town hall and the St. Jacobi Church, I would have set up an outside seat or something similar long ago.Of course, as a foreigner, I can't assess whether something like this would be worthwhile on the Hettstedt market square. However, in other cities and medium-sized centers, restaurateurs would fight in such a situation! :O)Let's summarize.Today I found another little pearl. If you ever find yourself in Hettstedt, don't let the big competitor a few doors away fool you. Please stop here and try the buttercream cakes! You will not regret it!

Since the service staff have to prepare everything themselves, it takes a little longer, but they are nice, friendly and willing to have a little fun. Always my pleasure.

Bread and rolls as well as cakes taste very good. The service is also good. Unfortunately I wanted to get rolls at 6.30 on Monday morning - the lady in the shop wasn't open - so I had to buy them from another bakery.
