Freiburg‘s closest mountain is the Schauinsland, approximately 1000 meters high. On the southwestern side is a little mountain village, called Stohren. In one of the most beautiful locations in Stohren nestles the wonderful restaurant and little hotel „Zähringer Hof“. They are the third generation, Christoph and Sabine Riesterer, who run this little gourmet restaurant on the top of the mountain. Superb local produce and only the best ingredients find their way into Christoph‘s modern Badische Kitchen. Many of the regular guests drive a long way to have lunch or dinner here. The menue is a perfect balance between Badische classics and innovative daily specials. No nonsense, no show, no gimmicks, just excellent, well grounded food at very reasonable prices. Christoph‘s sliced fried potatoes, called Bratkartoffeln, are a legend in itself! The best for many miles around him. The service run by Sabine is as friendly as it is helpful. The winelist is quite extensive and well selected! A must visit for country and food lovers alike! Make sure you reserve a place!

We went there for dinner on a foggy day. The low hanging clouds created a special atmosphere. The inn gave us a correspondingly homely welcome and the landlady was friendly and professional. The food we ordered was very well crafted and the ingredients were outstanding. It was a very nice evening.

After we often went to the Zähringer Hof with our family celebrations during my childhood, I wanted to finally "kidnap" my parents there again for their 56th wedding anniversary. We were there for lunch, had reserved a table inside in advance and announced our dog. We immediately felt welcome and had a table in a quiet corner with a beautiful view. The food was incredibly delicious. Live fresh trout, the starter (pineapple tomatoes with burrata, very tasty) made the waiting time absolutely ok and with such tasty, fresh trout the waiting time is worth it. The meat dishes were also very good. The food isn't cheap, but it's worth every cent! At the end we had a fine, strong espresso. We were very satisfied and would love to come back!

We ate there for the first time today. Unfortunately we had to wait 1 hour 15 minutes for our main course. Even if there's a lot going on - it's just too long. We didn't find the quality of the food appropriate for the price asked. The meat cakes had a strange aftertaste, the mushrooms with the veal schnitzel were mushrooms, not chanterelles as stated on the menu.

A real feel-good place! We enjoyed a particularly delicious and healthy snack on the beautiful terrace and then tasted the wonderful cake. The service was very warm and relaxed. The visit is very worthwhile.
