I stayed here 2 weeks ago and thought what a lovey place to come and relax, so I thought be nice to bring my mum and little sister for short weekend to relax. Nice warm welcome from reception. Lovely location and views. Love the velvet chairs and calming spa areas. Great treatment. However, When we went into the room it was a smack in the face with the union-jack sofas pillows and chairs. They was stained. The back of the toilet system was dusty. The plug got stuck in the bathroom. Cobwebs around the windows and lamp shades. Not the cleanest room. Staff in the sports bar and entry to swimming pool could smile and be more friendly and not so stern. Sports bar tables where sticky and dirty had to clean ourselves.

Lovely room and gym was amazing. But the restaurant has damaged my experience. For dinner, service was incredibly slow, due to lack of staff, despite the restaurant looking like it was half capacity. Our table had a range of starters and they were all terrible. Prawn cocktail was flavourless and served with 1 slice of cucumber and half a cherry tomato. Arancini was over fried. Ham hock looked and tasted tinned. The mains were better but portions could have been larger. Staff couldn’t remember which steak was rare and which was cooked medium rare, so took an educated guess.Deserts again tasted better but felt like portions were cut to improve margins.Overall not worth anywhere near the cost of the 3 course set menu plus extra for steak. The following morning we were told we couldn’t eat at the breakfast buffet because they were at capacity. I appreciate this is because the venue is huge, but hire appropriate staff to cater a self service breakfast then.Positive things were the gym was amazing, one of if not the best I’ve been to. Stunning scenery and wish I had my clubs for a round. And the rooms were huge and very well designed.

First impressions count, and we couldn't have had a better welcome from Reception. All the staff were met we're friendly and helpful. The room we had was well maintained and clean (albeit a bit too warm). Large car park with overflow.

An absolutely beautiful hotel. We had a wonderful time from start to finish the service was fantastic. It was my partner’s birthday so we got upgraded and complimentary drinks. We had dinner in the Kings restaurant and Emma, our waitress was exceptionally helpful. Would definitely recommend. The hotel has lovely gems throughout and the grounds are breathtaking !

This is the second time I've been to the old thorns hotel and I had a lovely time. We stayed using one of the offers on the website- dinner (2course with a drinks voucher) and breakfast. We used the spa facilities, it was busy but we still enjoyed ourselves and found it less busy in the morning. Dinner was a carvery and there was plenty to chose from, we were so full we asked if dessert could be bagged up and we ate it in our room later in the evening. Breakfast was also buffet style and plenty to choose from. We were so full. The rooms were nice and bed comfy. We would definitely stay again as I find it great value on a deal.
