Sessile Oak by Marston's Inns

Ordered carvery at the bar, the lady took my payment then walked off to chat. I stood there for 5 mins waiting for a carvery ticket until she realised. Carvery was cold so was gravy, meat was dry. No cutlery on any tables so went to the staff station to hunt it down myself, could only find a fork.

Very slow service, many items unavailable

Firstly, I reserved a table through the app to celebrate my son's GCSE results, but when we arrived we were told to just sit anywhere that was free. The table we sat at did not have replenished cutlery or napkins, and the other tables around us were similar.The carvery wasn't on, which is why we booked in the first place. So that was disappointing.I decided to use the app to order from the table as the bar was busy with only one staff member. The app was not particularly easy, resulting in me ordering one of the meals twice, which I'd already paid for and they'd already cooked before we realised, so that was my error. But due to that, I won't be likely to use the table order service app again. The food was fine, and the waiting staff were.... adequate.I have been to Sessile oak many times over the years for family events, however I'm sad to say I feel it has slipped a bit. All in all it wasn't bad, but nothing to make me return either. Shame.

The steak was powder dry and warmed up in the microwave. Not even hot yet. You could see through coffee. Dessert was ok. Unfortunately overpriced for the quality. I was just unlucky. But don't have to go back 🤔😕

Good standard rooms, perfect service, but a bit too far from the centre...

Had a couple of drinks in the sunshine and then stayed overnight. Staff all very friendly and helpful, check-in was very smooth, they helped us out with directions, and supplied us with additional tea bags. Free parking, beds were very comfortable, rooms very clean and lots of hot water. Everything we needed! Thank you very much :)

We had a fantastic lunch here, great portion sizes for both adults, kids and especially on the gluten free menu. Very difficult to find such a variety. Kids eat for a £1 was an added bonus, the manager Phill was extremely friendly and made us feel welcomed. Will be back for sure.

Review of Sunday Carvery at The Sessile Oak, LlanelliI recently had the unfortunate experience of dining at The Sessile Oak for their Sunday carvery, and I must admit, it was quite disappointing.Upon arrival, we were met with the confusing situation of having to order through a QR code, with no further explanation or assistance provided. As someone who appreciates a bit of guidance when trying out a new restaurant, this was frustrating. A brief introductory rundown on the ordering process would have gone a long way.Our frustrations continued when we noticed that our table was lacking basic necessities—specifically cutlery and napkins. After asking for them, we were left waiting for an unwelcome 10 minutes, which added to the sense of neglect we felt as customers.When the food finally arrived, it unfortunately didn't manage to redeem the experience. The carvery itself was disappointing; the meats were lukewarm and lacking in flavor, making for a rather bland meal. A Sunday carvery should be a hearty and comforting experience, but this offering did little to excite the palate or warm the soul. It felt as though care had not been taken in the preparation, leaving much to be desired.To top it all off, the decor of The Sessile Oak—both inside and out—also left a lot to be desired. The establishment looked tired and in desperate need of a major renovation. Dull colors and worn furnishings added to the overall sense of neglect and didn’t create the inviting atmosphere one might hope for in a Sunday dining experience.Overall, the Sunday carvery at The Sessile Oak did not meet my expectations. Poor customer service, lackluster food, and tired decor all contributed to what should have been a pleasant outing instead becoming a regrettable experience. I hope the management takes these concerns to heart and makes the necessary improvements; it certainly has potential, but it needs a lot of TLC!

Review about the restaurant.Walked in, found a table, looked at the menu. The menu has changed since our last visit almost a year ago, some of our favourites are now gone from the menu. The menu is so complex and overstocked that the descriptions for meals are in 4-point, making them incredibly difficult for my mother to read due to her eyesight not being 20-20. Half of the menu is now vegan option meals where you have to pay extra to add meat into the meal (which is insulting as a omnivore). Items on meals small, undersized, cr*ppy 'chips' with the burger and items missing from our order when we ordered it, It was not that busy. The service was "okay", and fairly timely, but the food recieved was not worth its cost of £50. (Three mains, one side). For £15 less, we *could* have gone to the indian takeaway 3 doors down from our house, over an hour away, (15 miles in wales), and would have recieved food both better in quality and in portion size.An addition, the loyalty cards for free beer after paying for 6, are no longer given out, and existing cards are no longer even honoured!I expected better from what was once upon a time one of my favourite establishments to visit.For clarification, we live in Amman Valley, making the trip take an hour between our house and this restaurant. We will not be taking this trip again.

Nice rooms, standard carvery pub, excellent breakfast. Good sized rooms with comfy bed and nice linen. Location ids on a retail park out of town but good if convenient for travel.
