The royal has recently been updated thanks to the new management who have obviously invested time and money into the hotel. The staff and customers are always friendly and it's a nice place for a drink with friends.

More modern than I expected inside from the exterior & location. No cask ales, but friendly enough. It's sat in an unusual dock side location serving very local housing. Lively, even on a Monday lunchtime with music at high volume. Because of location it isn't pub you'd really chance upon by accident but if passing I'd certainly go in again.

Stayed at this older hotel a number of times it is very convenient when working in Barrow in Furness and good value. Popular with travelling workers it is fairly basic and could maybe do with a spruce up but the breakfast was very nice and the rooms are clean and quiet.

The two usual hotels chains were charging almost £120 per night which was way over my work budget. |Did a bit of digging and found the royal hotel. …
