Cycled up from Carlisle on a bright but cool September day. Arrived to find a warm, comfortable and welcoming hotel at The Grapes. Easy to store our 2 bikes as plenty of room in the back of the hotel. …

Top marks to Steve and his team for feeding a bunch of greedy (sorry, hungry) cyclists this weekend. Our party of 15 ate here for two consecutive nights and thoroughly enjoyed the food, and the banter. The Cullen Skink and vegan curry were particular highlights, as were the onion rings made from the prize-winning onion!

Spur of the moment decision, we decided to go to ‘pastures new’ for a night. Great decision, very welcoming, clean and newly refurbished. Bar meal was ‘pub grub’ and very good. Hubby loved the beer. …

Stopped here for a quick pint on the way through, checked the menu and went back for dinner. We had a lovely meal, which included prawns, fish and chips and the highland crumble. The portions were good and it was all very tasty. Our waitress was great too. We left full and happy.Recommend but do check the times for evening meal and your arrival as the kitchen closes earlier than you maight expect.

The bar of this hotel had a friendly air and seemed popular and lively with locals and visitors, without being rowdy. Good selection of whiskeys available. Competent evening staff greeted us and took our order for an evening meal. …

Would thoroughly recommend this lovely cosy friendly hotel. Ideally located in the centre of Newcastleton for our trip to the Scottish Borders and Kielder. Stunning scenery nearby. …

We're cycling the Kirkpatrick C2C. The ride into Newcastleton is awesome. The Grapes provides secure cycle storage overnight. The staff are great, the room is great and dinner in the restaurant was great. A good selection of malts in the bar. A lovely place to stay and I hope it becomes a regular stop for cyclists on the C2C.
