A bargain hostel that is located close to the Peak District. Be prepared - ear muffs - because some guests are very noisy all night long. It is not always occupied by walkers/climbers and explorers.

Cheap and cheerful, very friendly staff that do the work aways, this was the best thing about it, happy to help, nice people, curry devine down the road is sells a banging lamb curryVery cheap £75 for 4 nightsNo facilities for drying wet waterproofs or clothing Which was a surprise, no common area except the relatively small kitchen. The hostel was quiet when I was there, it would suck when busy. The reviews about cleanliness are right, despite the argumentative owner disagreeing ( I don't think they have ever been there)It's very untidy with black mould on the ceiling above my bed, room hoovered once during my stay so messy on arrival and departure, mattress was not in a good way, kitchen messy. They don't recycle, very irresponsible

Amazing place, really clean and tidy with superb staff, thanks Ro. I was in the male dorm for a couple nights and felt safe and happy. Spent the days travelling the city but the trams made it so easy, and having a board in the kitchen to say how to get around is awesome.peak district 10 mins away and meadow hall 20. Can't wait to stay again

Cut my trip short because couldn’t bear coming back to the hostel for the second night. The kitchen table was filthy, the “continental breakfast” was a few jars of dusty cereals and one of the employees lingered in the kitchen all morning telling guests to do their washing up (one guest left a mug on the side and went upstairs, the employee called after the guest and spoke to him like a parent speaks to a child. The guest was popping upstairs to get changed and returning to the kitchen to have his drink. He had to explain himself, this is an unacceptable way to treat paying customers. Made me want to avoid the kitchen - the only common space available. Embarrassing.) I felt like I was being tested on my cleanliness in a hostel I felt dirty just being in. It was not relaxing at all and I felt like a socially anxious teenager again!! I felt like I was being watched! The room, however, was cleaned by the lovely employee who welcomed me on my first night (the reason this is not a 1 star review) and was a good level of cleanliness - I wish the rest of the place was as clean. The sheets were fresh and duvet was nice but the bed was so uncomfortable I barely slept and woke up with aching joints. No lockers to keep valuables in so I had to carry all my stuff around with me around the city. The room was also way to small for how many beds there were, which just made it awkward and absolutely no storage. Front door and bedroom only locked with a code which didn’t feel safe at all.

Filthy and noisy to the extent that we had to stay there for 3 nights because all the hotels were booked up. Didn't wash for 3 days because it was vile. One of the worst experiences I have ever encountered and I would avoid at all costs. Best thing Breakfast and legging it on the last day.

The dorms were not cleaned properly, the kitchen usage was the only good thing about this place. Only one toilet and one shower was working which is not enough for so many people sharing the dorms. Cleanliness of the dorma need to be checked.
