What a find! If you're looking for a branded standard plain room at a chain style hotel this is not for you. If you want to be whisked back to a time when hotels were all about the guest, where nothing is too much trouble and the owner is front and centre making sure his guests are looked after this is the place for you. This is a huge property, parts of which are from the 12th century, but with just 6 (more modern rooms) rooms you're sure to be looked after. You'll be asked to sign in on arrival and your bags are carried to your room.I stayed for 2 nights for a wedding nearby and didn't want to leave. The bed was probably the most comfortable I've ever had in a hotel, the breakfast was really good and everything I could ever need was in the room for me to use. I was travelling solo and felt very safe here,The owner, Michael, has worked in Michelin restaurants and those service standards are front and centre all over this hotel. For me my room was a little too chintzy with ruffles and quite a few ornaments dotted around but everything was spotlessly clean, not a speck of dust to be seen which is always my concern. I opted for the small breakfast - which was huge - and toast, juices, tea and coffee and cereals etc were also available. Breakfast was served in the conservatory over looking the church and the side gardens. The big surprise was the dining room which I popped in to see on my way out, but unfortunately didn't get the chance to try the food. This room took me right back to when dinner was an event, the white grand piano was being expertly played, candelabra's were lit and diners were chatting enjoying their food. There is also a large lounge/bar area with cocktails available, I only wish I had been able to spend more time there and get the full Chantry experience. With just 6 rooms this would be the perfect weekend get away for a small group and Michael would definitely look after you.I will definitely be returning, it's close enough to the town to walk in, a beauty salon is just a minute away and the nearby walks and views are calling me back. I have never been to this part of the UK before and I'm so glad I chose to stay here. I highly recommend.

Just had a lovely stay at this beautiful old hotel. Our room overlooked the gardens, and the decor was absolutely lovely. The staff are all friendly, and the service was excellent. Special thanks to Claire the general manager for making us feel so welcome and looking after us so well.

This is a wonderful hotel with a beautifully laid out dining room. The staff are all 5*. I had a table for 4 on Sunday, for lunch. Sadly we were the only people there. Equally sadly the roast beef was not up to their normal high standard. Sorry, folks at the Chantry. I know you are looking for a chef, and I look forward to returning when they're in residence...

I went for lunch today with two friends. Honestly its such a lovely place. We were in the conservatory and it was warm and cosy and had that " loungy" " home from home" feeling. You don't get that in most of the other coffee places in Dronfield. Tables are usually crammed together with uncomfortable chairs. These chairs are upholstered and really comfy...which is fantastic when you have a bad back! The coffee is strong and how coffee should taste..and I am very picky! It was lovely to look out of the window and see beautiful greenery and vibrant coloured flowers...even saw a squirrel.Michael the owner is really friendly and listening to his stories about the history of The Chantry as we were leaving was captivating.I would also feel comfortable going there with a book on my own.I had a bacon, brie and cranberry panini...really tasty with a side salad and french dressing...If you want an "experience" then I would go here. Its a much welcome change from modern, cold, minimalist places and has a charm that can only come from years and years of history. It's somewhere that ticks the box that no other place round here does.We will be back soon!
