Large bedroom, very small bathroom. Very small. Nice staff. About a 10-15 walk to the train station. On a quiet street in Oxford away from the madness at the university. Up the street from Gayle's bakery, a must for breakfast. No breakfast at the hotel. Recommend the Oxford Wine Cafe up the street too. Pros: location. Cons: only so-so accommodations, tad dated. But clean.

The facilities were basic but sufficient. Our room had bed, desk, TV, wardrobe, two chairs, kettle, wifi, en-suite (with drinkable water) and happily a fridge. It all worked, but none of it was particularly nice: carpet a bit grubby, a noticeable smell, tiny bathroom, no mains sockets near the bed, shower control at a mad height. The decor and art were eccentric but inoffensive. The building itself was an odd little rabbit warren, but not intimidating. It was on a quiet street that nonetheless managed to be noisy sometimes. The worst aspect was that we arrived in a heatwave: our south-facing room was a furnace and the wide-open window did nothing to cool it. We were very grateful when we returned to the hotel on our second day to find that, unprompted, the staff had thoughtfully provided a fan. It's only a few minutes' walk from the centre of town and it does the job. We would splash out for somewhere more plush next time, but by Oxford standards it's good value if you just want somewhere to sleep and are not fussy.

One of the best places I've stayed in the UK. Staff was extremely friendly, rooms were clean and comfortable and the location was wonderful: quiet, but still walking distance from centre of town. Baffled, frankly, but the mixed reviews, because we thought it was a hidden gem. It's quirky, but that's hardly a negative to us.

Old building, uncomfortable bed, service is a bit strange as you need to go into the restaurant to check in and get your key, and noisy if there are other guests that are loud.
