If only I had been better informed beforehand. Simply terrible. The room was fine, but the bathroom... Queen Victoria certainly had a more pleasant bath back then. This bathroom hasn't been renovated in years. Slate floor, shower fitting made of cheap plastic, water too cold or too hot.The crowning glory, breakfast! That Ms. Gravells wasn't ashamed. She asked the day before what you wanted. I said 2 fried eggs each. There was one with a tablespoon of beans and actually 2 tomato halves and baconAnd a slice of toast for everyone, but I could still get a second one. Cereals were in the box on a side table. The normal host had at least transferred these into food storage containers. Would be more appealing to me.Coffee was cheap instant instant coffee. Nowadays you can expect coffee from a fully automatic machine. You sit in the hallway for breakfast. It smells musty in the houseFor this £125.

Awful experience, was booked by the MOD as my family was moving out of the area. We booked 3 nights but only stayed 1. We arrived but no answer at the front door, after 20 mins of ringing door bell - no access to the B&B. Drove out locally and fed family at restaurant, rang B&B and explained situation but got accused of not ringing doorbell enough - genuinely got accused of not trying hard enough to get into B&B! Owner was rude on phone and was genuinely awful to deal with! Managed to get in room and was asked what we would like for breakfast, highlighted that we wouldn’t need breakfast due to us not being available - response was ‘more money savings for me, dont worry about it’. Rooms are like an old woman’s shrine, old and poorly decorated. First morning, we decided to have a lie in - 0930hrs the owner walked into the room, without knocking on the door and my wife was sat up in bed. She was questioned why we were still in the room. No apology for walking in on us. Awful experience and awful owner. Felt like a cheap horror movie - AVOID!!! Horrible experience!!

The landlady appeared to have forgotten when we were due to arrive, but did let us in when we rang her. The hall - with a door to the outside at either end - served as the dining room. She assumed, without asking first, that we would both want a full English breakfast, which we did not.To get into our bathroom we had to climb over boxing 8" high and about a foot wide enclosing the soil pipe; not mentioned when we booked. There was a long and very visible crack in the bath panel with no evidence of attempts to repair or replace. We asked for a non-slip mat for the bath; this request was curtly refused. At breakfast one of us asked for porridge; when we commented on the small size of the portion, she told us that this was the size of the sachet! To her credit, the next day's portion was of a much better size. The rate of £105 per night seemed far too high for the quality of the accommodation. We will not return.

Were the people that gave good reviews staying in the same guest house as us? The room was adequate, the bedding was clean but didn’t fit very well. The bathroom had a toilet, sink and shower and that’s the best I can say about it. Both were very old fashioned and in desperate need of an update. We ate breakfast in the hallway which was cluttered with the family’s coats, scarfs, books etc. It was a thoroughfare for people coming and going, absolutely no privacy. It led onto the kitchen which smelt of burnt cooking fat. We had a choice of about 6 breakfast cereals which were just dumped on a table in the hallway. No choice of fruit juice or fruits. The tea was served in a cup (no tea pot). Can’t comment on a cooked breakfast because we didn’t fancy one, we had bacon sandwiches to take away. The owner who greeted us wasn’t rude but she was definitely not welcoming. The girl who served breakfast was much more pleasant but she was wearing black jogging bottoms and hoodie. The only reason I have given 2 stars is because the sheets were clean and we had cornflakes for breakfast. WILL NOT BE COMING BACK! I only ever give reviews if somewhere is very good or very bad!
