First, the positives. The staff were lovely, polite, and professional throughout our short stay. It is in a great location in the centre of Deal. We paid a premium (£180) to stay in a room with a balcony offering a fantastic sea view. …

We chose this hotel for its stunning location and chose one of the balcony rooms (Nelson) which are just gorgeous. A beautiful room with a large balcony and a fabulous view right onto the sea. We've marked it down because for £320 a night in late September, we find it badly needed an update. The carpet is very worn and stained, there was mould in the shower, some chipped paint and the one armchair quite worn and saggy. Comfortable bed though. We don't expect luxury in a three star hotel, but we do expect clean and fresh. It's still a nice experience but represents poor value at the price. Friendly and helpful staff and a very good breakfast. Owners - please give this lovely hotel some TLC!

Have stayed at The Royal hotel a few times before, including the superior balcony rooms. Cannot fault the location and the views, but the room (Wellington) is looking very tired since I last stayed and in need of some TLC. Carpet badly stained, pretty dusty in places, thin flimsy cushion pads ( no covers) for the balcony seats.....Was a very hot few days but despite the mention of air conditioning in the room facilities, (it is an old building, so I had my doubts), there wasn't any. Reception staff were wonderful and provided a fan on request. For the price of nearly £300 per night B+B, it is expensive. On top of that, parking is £10.80 per day! For the price of the room, would have expected more. A small fridge would be a great addition. Although its is a nice touch that fresh milk is provided on request in a small flask, (limited " shelf life" though), having warm water (bottled water is provided) is not wonderful. Restaurant + food lovely. Customer service great.Would definitely stay again, but will stick to slightly out of season as the summer rate is very expensive and not worth the money.

The location is great! The staff is friendly and helpful! My family of 4 stayed in a family room which was perfect. The kids had their own room with bunk beds and my husband and I had our own space. …

I’m sorry to see disappointed and unhappy reviews on here. Took a friend visiting with us to lunch here. For a seaside restaurant with outside space, a nice welcoming vibe and friendly staff we didn’t choose badly. …

Worst fish and chips ever and not cheap either at £17.50.|The staff didn't add to the experience. Perhaps should have deducted the 10% service charge as it certainly was not worth rewarding. |The seaview was nice but the kitchen door banged like a 25 pounder.

Do not be fooled by the lovely photo,s when booking. The hotel is not cheap but we fancied a bit of luxury, and this was far from it. The rooms show roll top baths with a sea-view balcony. …

We called in for Sunday lunch on a very sunny Sunday. The hotel is dog friendly but we decided to sit outside with our dog, to admire the sea view. We both chose half a chicken and it was huge and very tasty.  …

All right, it's old-fashioned, but in the good way. We had a "Superior Double" room. …

Very disappointed, we had the fisherman's board. Cold gritty prawns for £24 - you would expect some decent selection and variety but sadly was just awful. Plain salad and sauces from a bottle. Only saving grace was kids enjoyed their meal which was just standard sausage and mash.Missed opportunity as it's located in a nice spot in Deal.
