I recently stayed having made a group booking for four rooms. Booking was not plain sailing as I had to call on a day when Tom, the manager, was in. Once I was able to speak to Tom, he was very helpful in getting the rooms booked. They did not ask for a deposit, which was great in some ways but I was nervous the rooms may have not been reserved as I did not get any form of confirmation in writing. Fortunately all was fine when we arrived. Tom and his team were very accommodating. There was a good selection of beers available on draught (we particularly liked the Motorhead Road Crew beer, which unfortunately they ran out of). We sat up late by the warm coal burner and Tom kept the bar open for us as we were staying the night. The rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable. Furthermore they were all dog friendly if required. We opted to have a full English breakfast at a very reasonable extra cost. It was definitely well worth it.I'd recommend staying if looking for somewhere in the area.

A few of us were visiting the area and stayed at the Bay Horse Hotel. What a lovely place. The staff were extremely friendly and kept the bar open until very late for us. We had dogs with us and they were so dog friendly. The rooms were very comfy and well laid out (plenty of mirrors in ours) with a spacious bathroom. It even had a coffee machine. We all had the excellent full english breakfast - cooked to perfection. The dogs even had their own little plate of sausages brought out. A real gem of a place and Tom and his staff go above and beyond

Very disappointed. Booked Sunday lunch. Told only 2 portions of gammon available. No extra side dish of cauliflower cheese available. Veg that came with the meal was not enough for 6 people, had to ask for more! …

Had Sunday Lunch. Booked table for 6 people (4 adults, 2 children) for 2.30pm. Taken to a table but was only for 4 people so luckily could use the table next to it! Two adults & 2 children wanted gammon. Told there was only enough gammon for 2 adults or 1 adult & 2 children. Asked for extra side portion of cauliflower cheese but non available. Ordered large Shiraz but they didn’t have any ( they ran out of Shiraz on Friday)! When food came there was only one dish of vegetables that was too small to share between 6 people so had to ask for some more! Not offered any sauces by staff, had to ask for mint sauce. Asked for dessert menu. Told all that was left was 3 portions of bread & butter pudding or rice pudding! No ice cream for children. Food did taste nice but very disappointed that full menu wasn’t available when table was booked. If you want a choice you need to be there at 12pm. They finish serving at 4pm so you will have to make do with what’s left! Very disappointed & staff are inexperienced 🙁

Had Sunday lunch and really enjoyed it. The menu only offered Sunday lunch with a choice of lamb, beef or gammon. Great that you can order a small or large portion. Puddings were great too, with a selection of the old favs as well as some modern. I wasn't a fan of the limoncello accompanying the lemon ice cream. It tasted like Pernod. Overall I recommend this place as a good place to eat and would come again. Dog friendly!
