Ashley’s Crispy Chicken Katsu with Sweet Tonkatsu Sauce
Ingredients List
Tonkatsu Sauce
-
½ cup Worcestershire sauce
-
¼ cup ketchup
-
2 tablespoons soy sauce
-
pepper to taste
Breaded Chicken Breasts
-
2 cups vegetable oil, for deep-fat frying
-
½ cup all-purpose flour
-
½ cup panko bread crumbs
-
salt and pepper to taste
-
1 egg, beaten
-
2 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves - pounded to 1/4 inch thickness
-
1 green onion, thinly sliced
Instructions
-
To prepare the sauce, mix together Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, soy sauce, and a pinch of pepper. Set aside for later use.
-
Heat oil in a deep fryer to 350°F (175°C).
-
Spread flour and panko breadcrumbs on separate plates, seasoning both with salt and pepper. Crack an egg into a medium bowl. Dip the flattened chicken pieces into the flour, followed by the egg, and then coat with breadcrumbs.
-
Fry the breaded chicken in the hot oil for about 8 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to remove excess oil. Slice the chicken into thin strips, drizzle with sauce, and garnish with sliced green onions. Serve extra sauce on the side for dipping.
