Authentic Hungarian Goulash Recipe
Ingredients List
-
cooking spray
-
1 pound beef stew meat, cut into cubes
-
1 small yellow onion, chopped
-
1 ½ cups water
-
½ cup ketchup
-
3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
-
¾ teaspoon distilled white vinegar
-
2 tablespoons brown sugar
-
1 ½ teaspoons paprika
-
1 teaspoon salt
-
½ teaspoon dry mustard
-
1 (16 ounce) package egg noodles
Instructions
-
Coat a large pot with cooking spray and heat over medium. Brown the beef stew meat thoroughly on all sides for 5 to 7 minutes. Add the onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions begin to soften, about 5 minutes. Mix in the water, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, brown sugar, paprika, salt, and mustard. Cover the pot, lower the heat, and let it simmer until the beef is tender, about 2 1/2 hours.
-
In a separate pot, bring lightly salted water to a boil. Cook the egg noodles until they are tender but firm to the bite, about 5 minutes; drain the noodles. Serve the goulash mixture over the cooked noodles.
