Chinese-Style Steamed Fish Dish
Ingredients List
-
1 ½ pounds halibut, cut into 4 pieces
-
3 green onions, cut into 3 inch lengths
-
2 fresh mushrooms, sliced
-
6 leaves napa cabbage, sliced into 4 inch pieces
-
2 slices fresh ginger root, finely chopped
-
2 cloves garlic, chopped
-
¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce
-
⅛ cup water
-
crushed red pepper flakes to taste
-
fresh cilantro sprigs, for garnish
Cooking Instructions
-
Start by layering half of the green onions at the base of your steaming dish. This step is essential to keep the fish moist while steaming. Add half of the mushrooms and Napa cabbage on top. Place the fish on top of the vegetables, then sprinkle with ginger, garlic, and red pepper flakes. Finish by adding the remaining green onions, mushrooms, and napa cabbage. Pour soy sauce and water over the entire arrangement.
-
Set the steaming bowl in a steamer over a pot of boiling water, ensuring it’s covered. Steam for 15 to 20 minutes or until the fish is flaky and tender. Garnish with cilantro if preferred.
Important
This recipe works well with halibut, cod, or any other firm white fish.
