Classic Pot Roast
Ingredients Needed

2 pounds beef pot roast, fat trimmed and discarded

3 potatoes, peeled and cut into 6 pieces

1 large onion, cut into 8 pieces

2 carrots, cut into 1-inch pieces

2 stalks celery, cut into 1-inch pieces

3 ½ cups water, divided

salt and ground black pepper to taste

1 pinch garlic salt, or to taste

½ cup water
-
3 tablespoons cornstarch
-
½ teaspoon browning sauce (such as Gravy Master®) (Optional)
Instructions
Set your oven to 300°F (150°C) to begin.
Place the roast in a spacious baking dish and surround it with potatoes, onions, carrots, and celery.

Roast in the preheated oven for about 3 hours, or until the roast is browned and fully cooked.

Transfer the roast to an oven-safe serving platter. Use a slotted spoon to remove the vegetables and arrange them around the roast.
Lower the oven temperature to 200°F (95°C). Place the platter with the roast and vegetables back into the oven to keep everything warm.
Pour the remaining pan juices into a saucepan and bring to a boil. In a small bowl, mix the remaining 1/2 cup water and cornstarch until smooth, then add to the boiling juices. Lower the heat to medium and cook, stirring constantly, for about 5 minutes or until the gravy thickens. Season with salt and pepper, then stir in the browning sauce.
