Delicious Fry Bread Tacos
Ingredients List
-
2 cups all-purpose flour
-
1 tablespoon baking powder
-
½ teaspoon white sugar
-
½ teaspoon salt
-
1 ½ cups lukewarm water
-
2 cups oil for frying, or as needed
-
1 pound ground beef
-
1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans, drained
-
1 (1.25 ounce) package chili seasoning mix
-
2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
-
2 cups chopped iceberg lettuce
-
2 tomatoes, chopped
-
1 cup sour cream
Cooking Instructions
-
Combine flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Slowly add water, stirring until the dough becomes slightly sticky. Set the dough aside and allow it to rest while you heat the oil.
-
Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pan to 375°F (190°C).
-
Divide the dough into 6 equal portions. Flatten each into a round disc, roughly the size of your palm.
-
Fry each dough disc in the hot oil for about 2 minutes until the bottom is golden brown, then flip and fry for another minute on the other side. Drain on a paper towel.
-
Heat a skillet over medium heat. Brown the ground beef, breaking it up as it cooks, for 5-7 minutes. Stir in kidney beans and chili seasoning, cooking until everything is heated through (about 5 minutes).
-
Place each fry bread on a plate and top with a portion of the chili mixture, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and sour cream.
Helpful Recipe Tips
You can substitute lukewarm milk for lukewarm water in the recipe.
If the dough becomes too sticky to handle, simply dip your hands in a bowl of flour to make it easier to work with.
