Ingredients Needed

2 pounds fresh broccoli, coarsely chopped

1 large onion, coarsely chopped

½ cup water

¼ cup all-purpose flour

1 (14 ounce) can evaporated milk, divided

1 cup cubed sharp Cheddar cheese

2 tablespoons dry bread crumbs, or to taste

1 tablespoon butter, or to taste
Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x12-inch baking dish.

Place broccoli and onions in a saucepan, add water, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and cook for 8-10 minutes until the broccoli is bright green and tender.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and 1/4 cup of evaporated milk until smooth. Add the remaining milk and salt to the broccoli. Slowly stir in the flour mixture, bring to a simmer, and cook until the sauce thickens, about 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the sharp Cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.

In a small skillet, melt butter and toast the breadcrumbs over medium heat for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Remove from heat.
