Easy Bread Machine Calzone

Ingredients for Calzone
-
1 ¼ cups water
-
2 teaspoons active dry yeast
-
1 ½ tablespoons white sugar
-
3 cups bread flour
-
1 teaspoon salt
-
1 teaspoon powdered milk
-
¾ cup sliced Italian sausage
-
¾ cup pizza sauce
-
1 ¼ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
-
2 tablespoons butter, melted
Step-by-Step Instructions
-
To prepare the dough, combine water, yeast, sugar, flour, salt, and powdered milk in the bread machine pan, following the manufacturer’s recommended order. Start the Dough cycle. Once completed, roll the dough out on a floured surface.
-
While the dough is working, brown the sausage in a skillet over medium heat for 8-10 minutes. Drain the excess fat and set aside.
-
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
-
Shape the dough into a 16x10-inch rectangle. Place it on a greased baking sheet. Spoon pizza sauce down the center of the dough, then top with the browned sausage and shredded cheese. Cut 1 1/2-inch diagonal slits along both sides of the dough, cutting to within 1/2-inch of the filling. Cross the dough strips over the filling and seal the edges with a little water. Brush the top with melted butter.
-
Bake the calzone in the preheated oven for 35-45 minutes or until golden brown. Let it cool for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.
