Mom's Spaghetti Bolognese – A delicious take on the classic Italian pasta dish, combining savory flavors with rich sauce.

Ingredients List
-
1 (16 ounce) package spaghetti
-
2 tablespoons olive oil
-
3 strips bacon, diced
-
1 large onion, finely chopped
-
1 stalk celery, finely chopped
-
1 carrot, finely chopped
-
1 teaspoon dried oregano
-
3 cloves garlic, minced
-
1 pound lean ground beef
-
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
-
2 (28 ounce) cans crushed tomatoes
-
2 tablespoons tomato paste
-
2 teaspoons white sugar
-
salt and ground black pepper to taste
-
2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil
-
¼ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
-
Fill a large pot with lightly salted water and bring it to a rolling boil. Add the spaghetti and let it return to a boil. Cook the pasta, stirring occasionally, until it's tender yet firm, about 12 minutes. Drain the pasta once cooked.
-
In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat and add the bacon. Cook until the bacon is crisp, about 8-10 minutes. Add the onion, celery, carrot, and oregano; cook until the vegetables soften, around 8-10 minutes. Stir in the garlic and cook for another 2 minutes. Crumble the ground beef into the pot, cooking and stirring until fully browned, about 8-10 minutes.
-
Add vinegar to the beef mixture and simmer until the liquid evaporates, about 5 minutes. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and sugar. Bring to a boil, season with salt and pepper, then remove from heat. Stir in fresh basil.
-
Spoon the sauce over the cooked spaghetti and garnish with freshly grated Parmesan cheese before serving.
