Pork Chops Baked with Creamy Mushroom Sauce

Ingredients Needed
-
1 tablespoon butter, for greasing
-
6 pork chops
-
1 teaspoon salt
-
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, or to taste
-
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
-
2 tablespoons butter
-
2 large onions, finely chopped
-
1 (10.5 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
-
1 ¼ cups milk
-
4 cups thinly sliced potatoes
Cooking Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 2-quart baking dish with 1 tablespoon of butter and set it aside.
Season the pork chops with salt, garlic powder, and pepper. Heat 2 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the chops in the hot butter until they are golden brown on both sides. Transfer the chops to a plate.
In the same skillet, cook and stir the onions in the remaining drippings until they are caramelized. Add the condensed soup and milk, stirring until the mixture is well combined. Remove from heat and set aside.
Layer the sliced potatoes evenly in the prepared baking dish. Place the browned pork chops on top of the potatoes. Pour the soup mixture over the chops and potatoes.
Cover the dish and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Afterward, uncover and continue baking for an additional 30 minutes or until the potatoes are tender and the pork chops are fully cooked. The internal temperature of the chops should reach 145°F (63°C) when checked with an instant-read thermometer.
