Ingredients List
-
1 pound ground beef (80% lean)
-
salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
-
2 slices Cheddar cheese
-
2 extra-long hot dog buns
-
4 teaspoons mayonnaise
-
2 tablespoons ketchup
Cooking Instructions
Start by laying half of the ground beef onto a piece of plastic wrap. Shape it into a rectangle that is roughly 1/2 inch thick, 8 1/2 inches long, and 4 inches wide. Season with salt and pepper. Carefully roll the beef into a log shape, using the plastic wrap to guide you. Sprinkle with more salt and pepper. Tightly twist the ends of the plastic wrap and gently pat to slightly flatten. Repeat with the remaining beef mixture.
Preheat your outdoor grill to medium-high heat and lightly coat the grates with oil. Unwrap the burger dogs from the plastic and place them on the grill, positioning them perpendicular to the grates. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes until browned but still pink inside, then flip and grill for another 2 to 3 minutes. Top each burger dog with a slice of cheese and cook until medium doneness (the internal temperature should reach at least 140°F/60°C on an instant-read thermometer). Remove from the grill and let rest for 3 to 4 minutes.
Toast the hot dog buns on the grill and spread 2 teaspoons of mayonnaise on each. Place a burger dog in each bun and drizzle 1 tablespoon of ketchup over the top.
