Marbled Mini Doughnuts with a Dip-Dye Twist
What you'll need:
- 14 or 15 miniature glazed cake doughnuts (such as Hostess)
- 1 cup Creamy Vanilla Frosting (recipe, below) or purchased creamy vanilla frosting
- Food coloring
- Coarse sparkling sugar and food-safe luster dust
How to make them:
- Microwave the frosting in a microwave-safe bowl on 70% power, stirring every 30 seconds until it reaches a smooth, glazing consistency (about 1 to 1½ minutes). Be careful not to overheat.
- Pour 2 tablespoons of the warmed frosting into a ramekin. Add 1 to 2 drops of your chosen food coloring and mix. If you'd like additional colors, repeat this step with more frosting in separate ramekins, leaving some white frosting in the bowl.
- Drizzle 2 teaspoons of one or two colored frostings into the white frosting in a circular design. Dip a doughnut into the frosting, lifting it straight up to let any excess drip off. Place the doughnut, frosting side up, on a wire rack set over wax or parchment paper. Repeat with the remaining doughnuts, adding more colored frosting to the white as needed, but avoid stirring the frosting.
- Top the frosted doughnuts with sparkling sugar and luster dust for a shimmering finish.
