This is the one Aldi item I can never leave without.
Aldi isn’t just a favorite among the Dinogo community, it’s my go-to store for all my everyday shopping. A few years ago, it might have been harder to find everything you need in one trip, but today Aldi’s shelves are stocked with almost everything you could wish for, all under their award-winning private labels.
From its humble origins in Germany, Aldi has grown into one of the largest grocery chains in the U.S. While the store constantly introduces new and trending items, there’s one product that’s been a staple in my cart for years: Red Bag Chicken.
Aldi’s frozen breaded chicken fillets might be one of its best-kept secrets, though with the cult following the Red Bag Chicken has, it’s hard to keep it under wraps. Despite the widespread love for these chicken breasts, I always seem to find plenty in stock whenever I visit the frozen section—it’s like the RBC is just waiting for me.
What exactly is Aldi’s Red Bag Chicken?
Red Bag Chicken consists of frozen, breaded chicken breasts that are fully cooked and ready for you to prepare. The chicken is seasoned with a blend of sugar, salt, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, barley flour, and chicken broth, delivering a crispy exterior and a juicy, tender interior when cooked.
Many Aldi enthusiasts liken Red Bag Chicken to Chick-fil-A’s chicken, which is why it’s a top pick for making copycat Chick-fil-A sandwiches. But Red Bag Chicken is versatile and perfect for much more than just that.
How to make the most of Red Bag Chicken
Since Aldi's chicken fillets are pre-cooked, all you need to do is heat them up. The package recommends around 40 minutes in the oven, but I prefer using the air fryer for a faster, crispier result.
As mentioned earlier, many people buy Red Bag Chicken to make copycat Chick-fil-A sandwiches. While I do enjoy a classic chicken sandwich with cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and a brioche bun, that’s not my favorite way to enjoy Aldi’s chicken.
I frequently use Red Bag Chicken as a shortcut in recipes that require chicken or when I want to add extra protein. It’s the perfect meal prep item to toss into salads or wraps since it’s delicious whether served hot or cold.
I also love using it for quick meals that call for breaded chicken—like chicken Parmesan or chicken and waffles. No need to bread my own chicken when I have this in the freezer! Plus, the flavor is mild enough to take on any sauce, so it works great in dishes like General Tso’s or Nashville hot chicken. And of course, you can enjoy it on its own with your favorite sides.
