Understanding the Voting Process

Each year, for our World's Best Awards survey, T+L invites readers to share their travel experiences from around the world — giving their insights on the finest hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise lines, spas, airlines, and more. In 2024, over 186,000 T+L readers participated in the survey, casting more than 700,000 votes across 8,700+ properties (including hotels, cities, cruise lines, etc.).

Islands were evaluated based on the criteria listed below:

• Overall value

For each attribute, participants had the option to rate it as excellent, above average, average, below average, or poor. The final scores reflect the average of these ratings.

What Captivated Readers

The top three spots were claimed by two well-known locations: The Maldives (No. 1) and Bali (No. 3). However, the hidden gem of Phú Quốc in Vietnam secured the second position, nestled off the western coast in the Gulf of Thailand. Greece, boasting over 6,000 islands and islets, also had four entries: Milos (No. 4), Crete (No. 6), Corfu and the Ionian Islands (No. 20), and Páros (No. 24). This year, three Italian islands — Ischia at No. 11, Sicily at No. 17, and Sardinia at No. 21 — made the list, alongside Thailand’s Koh Samui at ninth and Phuket at sixteenth.
