8 Airlines Offering Discounts and Exclusive Perks for Students and Young Adults
As flight prices rise, finding ways to save becomes crucial, especially for students on tight budgets or with less flexible travel schedules. Fortunately, some airlines provide discounts specifically for students or young travelers. While these discounts may not be significant, every bit counts in making travel more affordable. Eligibility and requirements vary by airline, but expect these promotions to apply to economy tickets and select routes.
“We understand that travel is important to many young adults, and this summer is projected to be United’s busiest yet, with a 5 percent increase in customers flying with us in June, July, and August. We're excited to offer an exclusive discount on United Economy and Basic Economy seats for MileagePlus members aged 18 to 23, making it easier for them to embark on their next journey,” says a representative from United.
Here’s a list of domestic and international airlines that provide discounts for students and young adult travelers. Benefits can vary by airline, ranging from 10% off your ticket to an extra checked bag.

MileagePlus members aged 18 to 23 can enjoy a 5% discount on economy and basic economy fares for bookings made by September 30, 2024. To take advantage of this offer, log into the United app, navigate to the “book flight” section, and choose the young traveler discount. The promotion will be applied automatically to eligible flights. Note that basic economy seats may not include a checked bag, so pack lightly to benefit from this deal. Currently, this is the only U.S. airline offering student discounts as of this writing.
Iberia
Iberia Joven is a program designed for students and young travelers. If you’re under 30, you can enjoy a 10% discount on flights, and if you book for a group of four or more, the discount increases to 15%. Additionally, if you’re studying abroad, you’re allowed an extra bag and can change your return flight for free, no matter your age.
Singapore Airlines
Students enrolled at eligible colleges or universities can receive a 10% discount when booking Lite, Value, or Standard fares through Singapore Airlines student privileges. You'll also benefit from a higher baggage allowance and no fee for your first booking change. Singapore Airlines stands out by offering student discounts on economy, premium economy, and business class fares. Just verify your student status and start exploring the offers.
Qatar Airways
Qatar Airways boasts one of the top student programs available. By joining the Student Club program, you'll receive a coupon for 10% off your initial booking. After your first trip, enjoy 15% off your next reservation and 20% off for your second and third journeys. Students benefit from added flexibility, an increased baggage allowance, and complimentary Wi-Fi onboard. You can also share these perks with friends and family by designating them as student companions. If you fly at least once a year while part of the program, you’ll earn a one-time elite status upgrade upon graduation. Signing up is quick and free, making it a great option for frequent flyers with Qatar.
Emirates
Students aged 16 to 31 can enjoy discounts of up to 10% on economy and business class fares by using the promo code STUDENT for flights booked until March 31, 2025. You’ll also benefit from greater flexibility with your bookings. For all flights except those to/from Canada and the U.S., you’ll receive an additional 10 kilograms of baggage or an extra piece of luggage. To qualify, make sure to present a valid student ID or school acceptance letter at check-in.

SAS is another airline that provides youth tickets, with savings varying based on your chosen route, making it hard to predict the exact discount. To qualify, travelers must be between 12 and 25 years old and present a valid ID. Availability is limited and only applies to certain booking classes (V class/O class). To take advantage, simply look for a youth ticket during your search.
Lufthansa
Lufthansa takes a broader approach to the definition of “student.” To be eligible for their student fare benefits, you need to be at least 16 years old and either currently enrolled in higher education or able to show proof of acceptance. You can search for and book student fares once you verify your student status according to your departure country. Depending on where you're traveling from, destinations can include Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and India, especially for students in the U.S. In addition to savings, student fares also provide options for rebooking and refunds.
Turkish Airlines
Turkish Airlines offers an excellent student program. You can enjoy discounts of up to 20% on domestic flights within Turkey and up to 15% on international journeys. Additionally, you receive a higher baggage allowance, the option for a free ticket change, and 25% bonus miles on flights until the end of 2024. To benefit, simply create a Miles&Smiles account, verify your student status, and book your ticket.
Bottom Line
