8 North American Hotels to Reserve for the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse
On April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will traverse a 115-mile-wide band from Mexico’s western coast, across the United States, and out to sea via eastern Canada. Hotels offering views of this celestial spectacle are filling up fast, but we’ve found eight delightful and picturesque accommodations that still have availability for the eclipse—at least for now.
According to enthusiastic eclipse chasers, a total solar eclipse—where the moon entirely obscures the sun, casting daytime into twilight and revealing only the sun’s glowing corona—is akin to the Olympics of astrotourism. It’s an experience worth traveling for: an estimated 20 million adults ventured to different regions to witness the much-anticipated Great American Eclipse in 2017.
Experts predict that even more eclipse chasers will be on the move next year. Approximately 32 million people currently reside along the path of totality, which spans from San Antonio through Indianapolis, Rochester, and Burlington. Major cities like New York and Philadelphia are also within a manageable 200-mile drive to experience totality.
Next year’s phenomenon will be the last opportunity to see a total solar eclipse above the contiguous U.S. until August 2044. This is why cities and hotels along the path of totality are fully embracing the celebrations. Read on for eight exceptional hotels on the path of totality that still have openings for April 8, 2024. And always remember: Never gaze directly at the sun without certified eclipse glasses; while some hotels may provide them, it’s best to be safe and bring your own.
