A 3,000-year-old mummified woman has been unveiled after the opening of an ancient coffin in Egypt.

On Saturday, Egyptian officials opened the sarcophagus of a woman mummified 3,000 years ago for the first time.

The sarcophagus was one of two ancient coffins uncovered earlier this month by a French-led excavation team near El-Asasef, close to the Valley of the Kings archaeological site in southern Egypt, according to Reuters.

Both coffins contained mummies, with the first one already being opened and inspected by Egyptian antiquities authorities, the report added.

Egyptian officials reported that the second remarkably well-preserved mummy was discovered in a tomb alongside five colorful masks and nearly 1,000 statues.

To access the tomb, workers cleared 300 meters of rubble over a span of five months, uncovering vibrant ceiling paintings within.
