A complete list of Celebrity Cruises ships ranked from the newest to the oldest
Curious about the latest addition to Celebrity Cruises? It's wise to know before booking your trip.
The latest Celebrity ship usually boasts the most features and modern venues, including cabins, restaurants, bars, and attractions. If you're after the newest and best for your Celebrity Cruises getaway, this is the one for you.
Currently, the newest ship in the Celebrity fleet is Celebrity Ascent, which made its debut in December 2023.
Though Celebrity Ascent is still under a year old, it will soon be outdone by Celebrity Xcel — a comparable ship in the same Edge Class series. Celebrity Xcel is set to start its voyages in November 2025.

Other relatively recent additions to the Celebrity fleet include Celebrity Beyond, Celebrity Apex, Celebrity Flora, and Celebrity Edge. All of these ships started sailing within the past six years.
Overall, Celebrity Cruises operates 16 ships. Typically, the line launches a new vessel every two years and retains ships for about 20 to 30 years before retiring them. The oldest ship in the fleet, Celebrity Millennium, is 24 years old.
Generally, Celebrity's newest vessels are larger and offer more venues compared to their older counterparts. If you're seeking ships with the most dining options, bars, lounges, and other amenities, focus on those built in recent years.
However, this is a broad statement with an exception. One of Celebrity's latest ships, Celebrity Flora, is among the smallest in its fleet.
Accommodating only 100 guests, Celebrity Flora is one of three very small ships in the Celebrity fleet that offers year-round tours in the Galapagos. This represents a completely different business model for Celebrity compared to its traditional large-ship cruising operations.
In a way, Celebrity operates as two cruise lines: a large-ship brand featuring 13 vessels that host 2,000 to 3,000 passengers on worldwide voyages, and a Galapagos cruise operator with three small ships carrying only 16 to 100 guests. This guide includes all vessels in their fleet.
Keep in mind that Celebrity's two smallest ships in the Galapagos will be leaving the fleet in 2025 as part of a reduction in their Galapagos operations.

What is the latest Celebrity Cruises ship?
The latest addition to the Celebrity fleet is Celebrity Ascent, which made its debut in December 2023. With a gross tonnage of 141,420, it is the largest ship in the fleet, sharing this title with the slightly older Celebrity Beyond, also at 141,420 tons.
What is the oldest ship in the Celebrity Cruises fleet?
The oldest ship in the Celebrity fleet is Celebrity Millennium, launched in 2000, marking the dawn of the millennium (hence its name). It was the inaugural vessel of the four Millennium Class ships that debuted in the early 2000s, making them the oldest in Celebrity's large-ship lineup.
What new ships are set to join Celebrity Cruises?
Currently, Celebrity Cruises has one new ship on order: the 3,260-passenger Celebrity Xcel, which is slated for a November 2025 launch.
With a weight of 141,420 tons, Celebrity Xcel will become the fifth member of Celebrity's Edge Class series, which started with ships debuting in 2018. The previous four include Celebrity Edge, Celebrity Apex, Celebrity Beyond, and Celebrity Ascent.
The Edge Class ships are under construction at the renowned Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard located in Saint-Nazaire, France.
What is the latest Celebrity Cruises ship that can be booked?
The newest ship available for booking with Celebrity Cruises is Celebrity Xcel. Although it hasn’t started sailing yet, its inaugural voyages set for November 2025 are already available for reservations, along with sailings up to April 2026.
Celebrity Xcel is expected to embark on its inaugural winter cruise to the Caribbean, departing from Fort Lauderdale's Port Everglades.
What is the latest class introduced in Celebrity Cruises?
The newest class of ships for Celebrity Cruises is the Edge Class. Currently being introduced, it will consist of at least five vessels.
The inaugural Edge Class ship, Celebrity Edge, launched in 2018. Following it, three additional ships in this series—Celebrity Apex, Celebrity Beyond, and Celebrity Ascent—commenced operations in 2020, 2022, and 2023, respectively.
The final ship currently on order in this series, Celebrity Xcel, is expected to arrive in November 2025.
The Edge Class vessels represent not only the latest additions to the Celebrity fleet but also its most technologically advanced ships. With a capacity of 2,908 to 3,260 passengers at double occupancy, these ships feature cutting-edge innovations like Infinite Veranda cabins that boast floor-to-ceiling glass walls.
The Magic Carpet on Celebrity Apex. CELEBRITY CRUISESAnother groundbreaking aspect of the Edge Class ships is the 90-ton platform known as the Magic Carpet, located along the side of each vessel. Comparable in size to a tennis court, these platforms extend out from the ships and can be adjusted in height to fulfill various purposes—from a waterside bar to an area for boarding water shuttles.
What distinguishes newer Celebrity Cruises ships from the older ones?
Generally, the newer Celebrity Cruises ships are larger than their older counterparts—sometimes up to 35% bigger. This increased size allows for more onboard venues and attractions compared to the older vessels in the fleet.
For example, on Celebrity's latest and largest Edge Class ships, Celebrity Ascent and Celebrity Beyond, you'll discover enhanced resort-style areas specifically for suite guests called The Retreat, which aren't found on the smaller Edge Class ships or older Celebrity vessels. These exclusive suite areas feature two-level sundecks complete with hot tubs, lounge chairs, and private cabanas available solely for suite occupants.
Celebrity Ascent and Celebrity Beyond boast 179 additional cabins compared to their Edge Class siblings, each of which has 1,467 cabins. Consequently, they can accommodate 3,260 passengers at double occupancy, a notable increase from the 2,910-passenger capacity of Celebrity Apex and the 2,908-passenger capacity of Celebrity Edge.
In contrast, Celebrity's oldest Millennium Class ships can only accommodate around 2,100 passengers at double occupancy. This results in a more intimate atmosphere, especially among the relatively larger, mass-market cruise options.
This makes them an excellent option for those looking to experience Celebrity without the hustle and bustle of large crowds. The older ships in the Celebrity fleet cater to a specific group of fans who value a more intimate cruising experience and are willing to forgo some amenities in exchange. Additionally, they tend to be more budget-friendly on a per-day basis.
Celebrity's three petite vessels based in the Galapagos provide the most intimate atmosphere of all. They resemble floating boutique hotels.
Keep in mind that all Celebrity ships undergo regular renovations and upgrades every few years, so even the oldest vessels are outfitted with newer carpets, updated furnishings, and modern decor in their cabins. Many of these ships have also seen entire restaurants and bars renovated over the years, incorporating concepts that were first introduced on newer ships.
