Americans can travel to the Czech Republic, with only one condition.
This week, the Czech Republic has begun welcoming back U.S. citizens, expanding travel opportunities for Americans in Europe this summer.
On June 21, Foreign Minister Jakub Kulhanek announced via Twitter that the U.S. is now on the "green countries" list, allowing Americans to travel without needing a negative COVID-19 test or quarantine, thanks to the Czech Republic's traffic light system that permits low-risk tourists to skip the usual testing requirements.

COVID-19 regulations remain in place for Americans and other visitors with low-risk entry status wishing to explore as tourists. To participate in activities such as staying at hotels, dining in restaurants, visiting museums, and attending public events, you must present one of the following documents:
- Negative PCR test taken within the last 72 hours.
- Negative antigen test conducted within the previous 24 hours.
- For single-dose vaccines like Johnson & Johnson, proof that at least 14 days have passed since the dose within the last nine months.
- For double-dose vaccines such as Moderna and Pfizer, evidence that at least 22 days have passed since the first dose within the last 90 days, or proof that 22 days have elapsed since the second dose within the last nine months.
- If you have recovered from COVID-19 within six months prior to travel, you will need to provide proof of recovery.
"We've been anticipating this moment for quite a while," said Michaela Claudino, director of Czech Tourism USA & Canada, in a statement about the reopening. "We hope tourists will take the opportunity to see not only the famous landmarks but also discover some hidden treasures of the Czech Republic. The stunning architecture, rich culture, delicious food and drinks, and overall enjoyment will make your journey worthwhile."
As previously mentioned, the Czech Republic was among the first seven countries to implement EU Digital COVID Certificates, previously referred to as "green passports." While Americans cannot utilize these certificates, they allow EU travelers to digitally manage and access the listed requirements.
Make sure to pack appropriate respirator masks, commonly known in the U.S. as KN95 or N95, which filter up to 95% of airborne particles according to the CDC. These masks are required in most public areas, including stores, airports, and public transportation (like taxis and rideshares). If you're outdoors and social distancing isn't feasible, be ready to wear a mask as well.
Unlike other EU nations, such as the Netherlands, travelers arriving from "dark red countries," categorized as having an "extreme risk of COVID-19 infection," can still enter or return to the Czech Republic by undergoing an RT-PCR test before arrival, two tests upon arrival, and a period of self-isolation.
