Nashville’s central location makes it a fantastic choice for a road trip. If you’re arriving at Nashville International Airport, head downtown to the heart of the city. Hotels like Music City Loft and 404 Hotel in the Gulch are just a short walk from your first destination. The city offers ample public transportation options, taxis, and rideshares, plus a complimentary Joyride shuttle downtown. If you prefer to drive, there are plenty of parking spots available. Kick off your day at Puckett’s Grocery, a local staple since the 1950s, serving breakfast until 11 a.m. Don’t miss the ham steak and eggs with red-eye gravy.
Once you’re properly energized, stroll down Fifth Avenue to Ryman Auditorium, the legendary former home of the Grand Ole Opry, located just two blocks away. Immerse yourself in over a century of American music history at this quaint venue, originally built as a church. After your music history lesson, take a left towards Broadway. Your first stop is the iconic lavender Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge, nestled in the alley beside the Ryman, often featuring performances from Ryman artists post-show. Spend the afternoon exploring Honky Tonk Row, hopping between bars from Fifth Avenue to the waterfront, and seek out every stage showcasing the finest singers, fiddlers, and local talent.
For dinner, secure a reservation at Husk, located just south of downtown, where chef Sean Brock creates culinary magic with fresh produce and inventive dishes like fried chicken skin, all served in a charming country-house atmosphere.
Day Two
Kick off your day early with a trip down Highway 100 to savor the renowned fried chicken and biscuits at Loveless Cafe. The journey is well worth it, and breakfast is served all day long.
After your meal, explore the city on a walking tour along the waterfront to the capitol. Begin at Riverfront station and stroll along First Avenue, passing Nissan Stadium and Riverfront Park, until you reach Woodland Street. Take a left toward the nearby Tennessee State Museum, which is free and filled with artifacts ranging from Native American stone tools to items from early settlers’ homes. Continue your tour around the Tennessee State Capitol in Victory Park and head north along Capitol Mall, eventually arriving in Germantown, known for its vibrant pubs and eateries.
In Germantown, make sure to arrive early at City House, which opens at five, to enjoy their exceptional wood-fired pizza topped with pork belly and unique cocktails with names like “Kevin.”
Your final stop for the day is Bluebird Cafe, located in Green Hills just outside the city. This intimate 90-seat venue, nestled in a strip mall, often hosts stars like LeAnn Rimes and Keith Urban. A launching pad for artists like Garth Brooks, it’s also featured in the TV show Nashville. Be sure to reserve your spot at least a week in advance for the nine o’clock seating and get ready to be inspired by some of America’s top songwriters.
Later, make your way to 404 Kitchen (especially convenient if you're staying there) for a bourbon tasting experience.

No visit to Music City is truly complete without indulging in Nashville’s famous hot chicken, with several fantastic options to choose from. Hattie B’s, a newer establishment, is praised for its airy Midtown location. However, to experience authentic cayenne-fried chicken bliss, you must visit the original, Prince’s Hot Chicken. Hop in your car and head to the north side of town; try to arrive just before noon to beat the lunchtime rush. Each serving comes with white bread and a pickle, and don’t hesitate to start with the mild if you're new to the spice.
Return to downtown and visit the Country Music Hall of Fame, where you can sign up for the Historic RCA Studio B tour. Here, you’ll explore the legendary RCA Studio B, the recording site of over 200 Elvis Presley songs, along with special sessions from artists like Carrie Underwood. Stroll along 16th and 17th Avenues, known as Music Square East and Music Square West, to dive into the world of record labels, radio stations, live music venues, and the epicenter of America’s music culture. For a relaxed vibe, check out Tin Roof for diverse live music and draft beer, or head to Patterson House for craft cocktails and gourmet snacks like shrimp corn dogs.
