Are you trapped in a middle seat? United's app can help you secure a better one.
Most travelers dread the middle seat, and United is stepping up to enhance your flying experience.
With the latest update to the airline's mobile app (version 4.1.36), you'll receive a push notification if a better seat opens up while you're stuck in the middle. This update is now live on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

United has introduced a new traveler-friendly feature in its mobile app. The airline recently launched a group shopping experience that allows you to share itineraries and preferred flights with friends or family traveling together.
Late last year, United unveiled a significant new version of its app, which emphasizes improved day-of-travel updates, an updated MileagePlus member account page, accessibility enhancements, and more.
While United is at the forefront of mobile technology, travelers from any airline can utilize ExpertFlyer to find a better seat. One of ExpertFlyer's standout features — owned by TPG parent company Red Ventures — is the ability to set alerts for various seat types, including aisle, window, bulkhead, or exit row.
You can opt to include premium, paid, or blocked seats, which are sometimes accessible to elite and frequent flyers. After setting up an alert, you'll receive immediate notifications via email (or text, if preferred) when your desired seat becomes available.
I've personally relied on ExpertFlyer numerous times to secure a better seat — and I'm thrilled that United is introducing a similar feature in its mobile app.
