Assassination of Haiti's president; Airport closed and border with Dominican Republic locked down

This morning, the Port-au-Prince-Toussaint Louverture International Airport in Haiti is reportedly shut after the assassination of President Jovenel Moise at his residence around 1 a.m. local time on July 7. As of Wednesday evening, all flights in and out of the airport remain canceled or delayed until further notice, according to Sunrise Airways. Airlines such as American Airlines, Spirit Airlines, and JetBlue are offering fee waivers for travelers affected by the current situation, as reported by CNBC on Thursday.
Haitian interim Prime Minister Claude Joseph stated in a statement that a group of unidentified attackers, some speaking Spanish, invaded the President's residence, resulting in the Head of State's fatal injury. He condemned the act as "odious, inhuman, and barbaric," and noted that First Lady Martine Moise is currently hospitalized.
Despite claims that the Port-au-Prince international airport is closed, its website has not yet reflected any schedule updates, showing both departures and arrivals still listed. As of 9:10 a.m. ET on Wednesday, the flight-tracking service FlightAware indicated that 58 percent of outgoing flights and 38 percent of incoming flights to PAP were canceled.
In response to the ongoing situation, Dominican Republic President Luis Abinader has reportedly closed the border with Haiti, as stated by Reuters.
Interim Prime Minister Joseph stated that the "security situation in the country is being managed by the Haitian National Police and the Haitian Armed Forces," assuring that "all necessary measures are in place to ensure the continuity of the State and safeguard the Nation,"
