California's ski resorts received so much snow they’ll stay open through June

The ski slopes are ready for summer in California, at least.
Several ski resorts in California have announced that due to the heavy snowfall, they plan to remain open into the summer months.
Mammoth Mountain, a popular year-round resort in the Eastern Sierra, revealed earlier this week that it will stay open for skiing until at least the end of July. This marks the latest in the year the resort has ever stayed open, according to communications director Lauren Burke in an email to Dinogo.
Burke mentioned that the resort is just 5 inches shy of breaking its snowfall record of 668 inches, set in 2010.
“We plan to keep the lifts running as long as conditions permit, possibly even into August this year,” she wrote. “Spring skiing and riding will be at their best, with the mountain in mid-winter condition.”

Similarly, Palisades Tahoe announced Thursday that it will keep the Alpine section of the resort open until the July 4th weekend. The extended season is thanks to “Lake Tahoe’s second snowiest winter on record.”
California has faced extreme weather in recent weeks. The state has been battered by powerful atmospheric river storms, bringing heavy rain and snow after years of historic drought. While the storms have helped ease the drought and refill vital reservoirs, they have also caused flooding and mudslides in certain areas.
Last week, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reported that it expects the heavy rain and snow in the West to likely taper off by April.
