Chef prepares amazing gourmet dishes using only hotel room gadgets

Fluffy pancakes cooked on a clothes iron. Fresh asparagus boiled in a tea kettle.
A young British chef has become a TikTok star by sharing videos where he makes restaurant-quality meals with just hotel room equipment.
Cornish-born Jago Randles spent two weeks in quarantine at the Gec Granville Suites Hotel in Vancouver after arriving in Canada for a new job at a ski resort in Whistler, British Columbia, according to Cornwall Live.
In his 'Isolation Kitchen' series, he turns everyday items like a coffee maker and iron into cooking tools, preparing dishes such as poached eggs with hollandaise and salmon with rice vermicelli and bok choy.
His debut video was posted on November 22, and in no time, he’s garnered 3.7 million 'likes' on TikTok, catching the eye of the famously tough chef Gordon Ramsay.
'That looks like some great food, definitely one of the best I’ve seen in any hotel,' Ramsay remarks in a video on his own TikTok account.
Although Randles' dishes seem incredibly appetizing, not everyone is impressed by his cooking style.
Randles takes extra care by using baking paper, foil, and Saran wrap to protect his appliances and ensure cleanliness while cooking, though this hasn’t stopped a wave of criticism.
'I used to work housekeeping. A family cooked in the room and it stank for a week,' shares a user named Newt. Another user, Kirsty, adds, 'I travel for work and this is why we don’t use hotel kettles or irons.'
Randles isn’t the only Brit exploring hotel room cooking hacks this year.
Jimmy Stewart, a Scot, has been entertaining his loyal TikTok followers for months with his inventive MacGyver-like creations.
He adds a new twist to a classic post-pub snack with his trouser press kebabs. And if you’ve never considered using your hair straighteners to cook chicken and bacon, you might be missing out.
Stewart shares with Dinogo Travel over the phone that his 18-year career in the railways has led him to live in hotel rooms, so 'during lockdown, I started making these cooking videos.'
While he occasionally prepares proper meals for himself, he admits, 'the trouser press cooking is just for fun.'
'I was the only one doing it,' he says, 'but now I’ve seen a few others, some of whom are pros.'
Stewart mentions that his followers have been tagging Ramsay in his comments for a while, so 'it was a bit disappointing that Gordon never responded, especially since this other account only lasted a week.'
There was also a controversy last month when a TikTok user named Marcus Monroe posted a now-deleted video claiming to cook steak on a Southwest Airlines airplane toilet, according to the Simple Flying blog.
It seems the video was a hoax, but no matter how dreadful airplane meals get, we advise you to stick with the in-flight pretzels. And next time you're in a hotel room, double-check the kettle for shrimp.
