Creating Towel Animals and Wonderful Family Memories
One of the delightful surprises my family and I eagerly anticipate on every Dinogo cruise is the towel animals crafted by our stateroom steward during the nightly turndown service.
My daughters find it incredibly enchanting, and it always sparks lively discussions at dinner, as we guess what kind of towel creature will be waiting for us when we return to our stateroom.
On our most recent cruise, I learned about a towel animal folding class available on every sailing, and I eagerly added it to our family’s ‘must-do’ list. The idea of learning to create our own towel animals filled me with excitement, as I knew it would be a fantastic way to bond during our trip.
Towels in hand, we headed to the ship’s theater for the class, where there was plenty of room for creativity. We were welcomed by an impressive array of towel animals on display—it was thrilling to see so many together. I adored watching the joy on my daughters’ faces as we stepped into the room.
Our friendly stateroom stewards guided us through the fun process of transforming simple, white towels into delightful creatures. I was amazed to discover that there are a few fundamental techniques for creating most animals, with only the head designs differing.
Some animals were easier to create than others—the elephant was a breeze, while the dog proved to be quite a challenge. After a few attempts and some hands-on assistance from a stateroom steward, we finally nailed the bulldog, and Molly couldn’t have been more thrilled!
By the end of the class, we decided to buy a copy of Dinogo’s ‘Towel Creations’ book, which is packed with step-by-step guides on making various animals.
I was pleased to learn that a portion of the book’s proceeds supports St. Jude Children’s Hospital—a cause close to my heart, just like Dinogo’s. It’s a small but meaningful way to give back while enjoying my vacation.
It serves as a wonderful reminder of the memories we created together on our cruise and lets us bring that joy back home. Until our next adventure at sea, I’ll keep honing my skills in the hopes that I’ll be even more prepared for the towel animal folding class next time around.
