Delta Introduces 7 New Routes to Europe for 2025—Including Its First Flight to This Coastal Town in Sicily
It’s that time of year again. Leaves are changing, shoulder season travels are thriving, and international airlines are revealing their new routes for next summer.
Earlier this month, American Airlines announced its plans to introduce five new transatlantic routes. Not to be outdone, Delta Air Lines has recently shared that its summer schedule will feature seven new routes, including a brand new destination—Catania on Sicily—and enhanced service to some of its most popular European spots.
This will be Delta’s largest summer schedule ever, featuring 700 weekly flights, according to the airline. Here’s all you need to know about Delta’s summer 2025 lineup.
Delta’s new flights to Europe for 2025
This summer experienced unprecedented numbers of travelers in Europe. Despite ongoing protests against tourist influx, airlines are confident that many will still embark on transatlantic trips. Specifically, Delta believes travelers will want to embrace la dolce vita—of its seven new European routes for 2025, four will lead to Italy. The airline announced that it is now the largest U.S. carrier operating in the Italian market.
The new routes for summer 2025 include:
- Atlanta (ATL) to Brussels, Belgium (BRU): June 10-October 23
- Atlanta (ATL) to Naples, Italy (NAP): May 23-October 24
- Boston (BOS) to Barcelona, Spain (BCN): May 22-October 23
- Boston (BOS) to Milan, Italy (MXP): May 23-October 24
- Detroit (DTW) to Dublin, Ireland (DUB): May 7-October 5
- Minneapolis–St. Paul (MSP) to Rome, Italy (FCO): May 23-October 24
- New York (JFK) to Catania, Italy (CTA): May 22-October 24
While Delta already provides service to Brussels, Naples, Barcelona, Milan, Dublin, and Rome, Catania is a completely new destination for the airline—highlighting Sicily's increasing popularity since the cult HBO series White Lotus was filmed there. Catania is renowned for its active volcano Mt. Etna, which shapes both the skyline and the city's history (built on ancient lava flows). It is Sicily's second-largest city after Palermo and offers easy access to ancient Greek and Roman ruins, as well as beaches along the Ionian coast. Delta is the first U.S. airline to offer direct flights to Catania, though other carriers have previously flown directly to Palermo, another airport in Sicily.
Delta’s expanded routes to Europe
Alongside the new routes, Delta is enhancing its connections to popular destinations, including:
- Atlanta to Athens: 11 weekly flights (up from eight in 2024)
- Atlanta to Barcelona: 10 weekly flights (up from seven in 2024)
- Atlanta to Rome: 17 weekly flights (up from 14 in 2024)
- Atlanta to Zurich: daily service (up from four times a week in 2024)
- Detroit to Munich: daily service (up from four times a week in 2024)
