Securing a top spot means mastering the blend of urban sophistication with striking interior design, from graceful elegance to laid-back modernity. Each of these hotels offers prime access to local culture, whether it’s a night at the theater or the city’s best shopping, paired with superb dining and impeccable service. High standards define them all.
Voting Process Explained
Each year, for our World's Best Awards survey, readers share their thoughts on travel, ranking the best hotels, resorts, cities, islands, and more. Over 186,000 participated in 2024, casting over 700,000 votes across 8,700 properties worldwide.
Hotels are classified as city hotels, resort hotels, inns, or safari lodges, based on their location and amenities, and are evaluated based on specific criteria:
- Room Quality/Facilities
- Location
- Service
- Dining
- Value for Money
For each criterion, voters could rate hotels as excellent, above average, average, below average, or poor. The final ratings reflect the average scores across all responses.
What Readers Appreciated
Voters gravitated towards hotels with urban flair, blending artistic or historical charm. Consider the Lancaster Hotel, ranked No. 2, which was first built in Houston in the 1920s but now features over 200 pieces from local contemporary artists. Or Boston’s Raffles, at No. 3, where copper elements in the decor pay tribute to Paul Revere’s legacy in the copper industry.
Among the returning favorites from last year are Charleston’s Wentworth Mansion (No. 5) and The Lowell in New York (No. 14). A standout newcomer is New Orleans’ Maison Métier, formerly Maison de la Luz, with 67 rooms and an emphasis on cultural experiences like the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. The service at these top-tier properties also made a strong impression, particularly at Washington D.C.’s The Jefferson (No. 13), with one guest praising the hotel’s enduring ability to uphold luxury standards and excellent staff.
Only two West Coast hotels made the cut this year, and one of them claimed the No. 1 spot. Discover more about Pendry Newport Beach in California.
