Dinogo Readers' Top 3 Hotels in Montana for 2023
Montana’s premier hotels and resorts exude a relaxed vibe that contrasts with the more polished atmosphere often found in similar establishments in cities like New York and Los Angeles. Here, even the most luxurious accommodations feel approachable and warm — you might even find yourself exchanging casual greetings like “howdy.” The breathtaking, expansive landscape sets the tone for your day. Will you ride horseback in the morning? Trek in tranquil solitude? Or enjoy an afternoon on your private deck, soaking in mountain views with a good book?
How the Voting Process Works
In our annual World's Best Awards survey, T+L asks readers to share their insights on travel experiences worldwide — rating the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. This year, nearly 165,000 T+L readers participated in the survey, marking a nearly 25 percent increase from pre-pandemic levels. Over 685,000 votes were cast across more than 8,500 unique properties (including hotels, cities, cruise lines, etc.).
Hotels were categorized as resort hotels, city hotels, or safari lodges based on their location and amenities, and they were rated specifically on the following criteria:
- Accommodations/amenities
- Location
- Service
- Cuisine
- Value for money
Respondents rated each characteristic as excellent, above average, average, below average, or poor. The final scores reflect the averages of these ratings.
What Readers Adored
There’s a reason why the most selective travelers flock to Montana time and again. The pace here is leisurely, and the air is crisp, transforming this outdoor paradise into a true getaway — especially when you secure a room at one of Montana’s premier resort hotels. Ultimately, three properties stood out from the rest. All three were celebrated in last year’s WBA, with the top choice for 2023, Triple Creek Ranch in Darby, being a WBA Hall of Fame member, recognized as a winner for the past decade.
Whether you choose to stay at Sage Lodge (No. 3), The Resort at Paws Up (No. 2), or Triple Creek Ranch, you’ll be well taken care of.

The private log cabins and ranch houses ensure plenty of seclusion, perfect for curling up by the fireplace or soaking in your own hot tub. At mealtime, guests gather in the lodge, which has become a highlight of many stays, featuring fresh ingredients and unique flavors artfully plated, complemented by house wines or premium selections from the cellar.
