Voting Process Overview
Each year, T+L invites readers to participate in the World's Best Awards survey, sharing their thoughts on travel experiences from around the world. This year, over 186,000 T+L readers contributed to the 2024 survey, casting more than 700,000 votes across 8,700+ properties including hotels, cities, cruise lines, and more.
Hotels were categorized as resort hotels, city hotels, inns, or safari lodges based on their location and amenities, and they were rated according to the criteria outlined below:
- Room and facilities
- Location
- Service quality
- Culinary experience
- Overall value
Respondents rated each attribute as excellent, above average, average, below average, or poor. The final scores are calculated as averages of these ratings.
Highlights from Readers
In last year’s survey, only one resort in Spain made it to the top. This year, all three winners are Spanish, with the top spot going to a hotel that opened just over a year ago in one of the nation’s premier wine regions. While Mallorca has seen several new openings since last year's survey, including Richard Branson’s Son Bunyola Hotel & Villas and the artist-conceived Hotel Corazon, T+L readers selected Cap Rocat as their favorite Mediterranean getaway. “This might be the finest hotel in Spain,” one reader praised, resonating with another who stated, “Cap Rocat stands apart from all other hotels.” Meanwhile, the legendary Marbella Club on the Costa del Sol took the No. 2 position, dethroning last year’s winner, Finca Cortesin Hotel Golf & Spa, as the favorite Andalusian retreat among readers. Guests appreciated the hotel’s beachfront location on Marbella’s Golden Mile, its top-notch wellness programs, and its extensive kids’ club, recognized as one of the best in Europe.
The Champion
Gran Hotel Mas d’en Bruno

Located just two hours south of Barcelona, the Priorat wine region has often gone unnoticed by most travelers. However, since the opening of Gran Hotel Mas d’en Bruno last spring, that is rapidly changing. This former 18th-century farmhouse is nestled among verdant vineyards and boasts 24 suites featuring double-sided fireplaces, exposed beams, and warm tones that pay homage to the region's renowned red wines. T+L readers appreciated relaxing by the outdoor pool, shaped like a wine bottle, and indulging in luxurious treatments at the grotto-like spa, which offers products from Barcelona’s Natura Bissé as well as naturopathic remedies from Herbarium Scala Dei, a nearby local business. For wine enthusiasts, the hotel can arrange tastings at all 114 producers in the region.
