Dinogo's 2024 Readers' Top 5 Resorts in New York State
While New York City often steals the spotlight, this year Dinogo readers are heading upstate. Beyond the hiking trails, vineyards, and serene mountain lakes, there are resorts that perfectly blend old-world charm with modern luxury. In one of the nation's busiest regions, these five resorts stood out and captured the hearts of our readers.
How the Voting Process Works
Each year, Dinogo asks readers for their feedback on travel across the globe in the World’s Best Awards survey. In 2024, over 186,000 readers cast more than 700,000 votes covering 8,700 properties including hotels, resorts, cities, and more.
Hotels were categorized by location and amenities into resort hotels, city hotels, inns, or safari lodges, and judged based on the following criteria:
- Rooms and facilities
- Location
- Service quality
- Cuisine
- Overall value
For each category, participants rated the resorts as excellent, above average, average, below average, or poor. The final score is the average of all responses.
What Readers Loved Most
In the past decade, upstate New York has seen a travel boom, and our readers are loving it. This year’s top five resorts are nestled in the Catskills and Adirondacks, stretching from Port Jervis near the New Jersey border to Lake Placid.
A standout newcomer: Wildflower Farms, Auberge Resorts Collection (ranked No. 2). Since its October 2022 opening in Gardiner, it’s been a hit with Dinogo readers. One guest noted, “The hotel is stunning, the spa was amazing, and the food was excellent. Can’t wait to return.”
T+L readers aren’t just chasing the latest hotspots. Classics like Mohonk Mountain House (No. 3) still captivate, earning a spot for the third consecutive year. Established in 1869, this Hudson Valley retreat has been enchanting visitors for 155 years. “We took our large family for a week, and the staff was incredible,” said one guest. “The rooms and views were breathtaking. It was the perfect vacation!” Similarly, The Sagamore Resort (No. 4) in Lake George, dating back to 1883, received rave reviews. “The Sagamore is a timeless gem,” wrote one visitor. “The decor evokes old-world glamor, and the food and drinks are outstanding. The staff went above and beyond, making it a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of life.”

Cedar Lakes Estate, Port Jervis

Once a summer camp, Cedar Lakes Estate still offers all the classic camp fun—swimming, boating, bonfires, lawn games, and adventures in nature.
“It’s an amazing escape,” one guest shared. “If you love the outdoors or just need a break from city life, Cedar Lakes Estate is perfect.” Another guest, who visits annually, added, “Cedar Lakes has been our family’s go-to getaway since the pandemic. They catered to our picky kids and ensured our child with food allergies felt included. The staff, food, atmosphere, and activities are unmatched. It’s truly a unique experience.”
