Discover the Best Airlines in the World
This year’s Skytrax 2024 World Airline Awards evaluated around 350 airlines, based on passenger votes from over 100 countries, with Qatar Airways emerging as the top airline—ousting last year’s champion, Singapore Airlines.
Qatar Airways also excelled in categories for Best Business Class, Best Business Class Lounge, and Best Airline in the Middle East. Earlier this year, Qatar’s Hamad International Airport in Doha received the award for World’s Best Airport, knocking Singapore’s Changi Airport from its long-held position.
Taking second place among the world’s best airlines was Singapore Airlines, which additionally earned accolades for Best Cabin Staff, Best First Class, and Best Airline in Asia.
While no U.S. airlines made it to the top 20, Delta Air Lines ranked highest among U.S. carriers at No. 21 on the world’s best airlines list. Delta also secured titles for Best Airline in North America, Best Cabin Crew in North America, and Best Business, Premium Economy, and Economy Class in North America.
Notably, Cathay Pacific earned the title for World’s Best Economy Class, while Japan Airlines took home the award for World’s Best Premium Economy. British Airways was recognized as the most family-friendly airline thanks to its family check-in services, priority boarding, children’s meals, entertainment options, and onboard amenities like toys and activity packs. The airline also provides special infant seats with a five-point harness for babies weighing up to 27.5 lbs, accommodating most infants up to 24 months, allowing parents to travel comfortably without needing to buy an extra seat (other airlines typically offer bassinets with lower weight limits).
Turkish Airlines was honored as the Best Airline in Europe and recognized for Best Business Class Catering, while Ethiopian Airlines claimed the title for Best Airline in Africa. For the finest first-class meals, Air France stood out, winning the World’s Best First Class Catering and Best First Class Lounge Dining at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, along with the Best Airline in Western Europe.
Star Alliance was declared the World’s Best Airline Alliance and received the award for Best Airline Alliance Lounge for its new lounge at Paris Charles de Gaulle.
Since 1999, Skytrax has been ranking international airlines and airports through its annual World Airline Awards, often referred to as the “Oscars of the airline industry.” According to Skytrax, the rankings are based on millions of votes from airline passengers worldwide, ensuring independence and impartiality.
“All expenses related to the survey and awards event are covered by Skytrax, and airlines do not incur any entry or registration fees,” stated the airline ranking organization in its announcement.
