Dubai introduces the tallest swing ride in the world
Adrenaline enthusiasts now have a new thrill to check off their list: the Bollywood Skyflyer.
Soaring to a height of 460 feet (140 meters)—the same as the Great Pyramid of Giza—the new ride surpasses the previous record-holder by just 10 feet.
Launched last week at Bollywood Parks Dubai, it set a new world record, dethroning the 450-foot-tall Orlando Starflyer.
Constructed with 421 tons of steel, the Bollywood Skyflyer took 600 days to complete, with an additional 120 days for installation, according to Milton D’Souza, general manager of the park.
Nine exciting new attractions
Bollywood Parks Dubai had to temporarily close its doors due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Part of the Dubai Parks and Resorts complex, Bollywood Parks Dubai made its grand reopening on January 21, featuring nine thrilling new rides—including the world-record-breaking Bollywood Skyflyer.
Other fresh attractions at the Bollywood-themed park include a 180-foot (55-meter) Ferris wheel, a Mumbai-taxi-inspired rollercoaster, and a high-flying 'rocket' drop tower, all designed to showcase the vibrant culture of India, according to D’Souza.
Like many other businesses, the park took advantage of its closure to enhance and expand its offerings.
"We seized the opportunity to develop a brand-new area called the Mela Zone, which features most of the nine new attractions at Bollywood Parks Dubai," says D’Souza to Dinogo.
In 2019, Dubai Parks and Resorts attracted 2.6 million visitors. D’Souza is optimistic that the recent upgrades will draw even more guests as Dubai continues to rise in popularity as a global tourist hub.
More record-shattering attractions to thrill visitors.
Bollywood Parks is set to achieve even more milestones in 2021, according to D’Souza. Later this year, the park will debut the Bombay Express, the region’s first-ever wooden rollercoaster.
Beyond Dubai Parks and Resorts, Ain Dubai is poised to claim the title of the world’s tallest Ferris wheel when it opens later in 2021 at Bluewaters Island. Standing 688 feet (210 meters) tall, Ain Dubai will surpass the 550-foot High Roller in Las Vegas.
