Even with concerns surrounding omicron, over 100 million Americans are expected to travel this holiday season.

Americans are gearing up to travel for the holidays. According to AAA, approximately 109 million people are anticipated to travel by air or road for Christmas and New Year's, representing about 92% of the travel levels seen in 2019, and a significant rise from last year's holiday travel, which was limited by the pandemic.
The omicron variant of the coronavirus is raising alarms as case numbers surge in certain areas, prompting the reintroduction of indoor mask mandates and other pandemic measures in cities like New York. However, with COVID-19 vaccines and booster shots widely available, people feel more secure about keeping their travel plans this year.
Paula Twidale, AAA Travel's senior vice president, remarked, "Many Americans who postponed their vacations in 2020 are eager to reunite with family and friends this holiday season, while still being cautious of the pandemic and the omicron variant. With vaccines readily available, the situation is markedly improved, and more travelers feel comfortable making plans."
The classic American road trip is the top choice for travel from December 23 to January 2, with over 100 million expected to drive to their chosen destinations. Additionally, more than six million people are projected to fly, making airports busy around Christmas. According to AAA, Disney destinations in Orlando and Anaheim lead the list of popular spots this holiday, followed by Las Vegas, New York City, and Maui as the top five destinations.
We are still navigating a pandemic, and the emergence of a new variant may cause unexpected issues, making it essential to prepare for your holiday travels. Above all, remember to bring your patience when you go to the airport. According to TPG, the TSA's passenger screening figures for this holiday season are nearly back to the levels seen in 2019, thanks largely to the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines and the reopening of U.S. borders to international travelers.
